Hi Gang;
Photo taken Wednesday 7th Feb at 2.30 afternoon !!
The cows are coming in for milking - their 1st day out in the field after winter in the sheds.

Okay we did get snow on Thursday, but only a scattering here on the coast. Inland they still have 6 to 8 inches and its still snowing.

Its been so mild here plants & grass growing, a few people have mowed their lawns & the contractors have been mowing the roadside grass verges !!!

I know - you really dont want to read this !!!

Have as good day as you can in the snow.

Cheers David

I think the number tatooed on their butt is pretty funny. Never saw that before!

Hi Gang;
These are the first ones out of the field making their way to the milking parlour. they milk over 200 cows on this farm. Plus cattle, sheep, and crops.

Another great photo from David. Appears to be about 20 cows there. You don't suppose this farmer is able to make a living milking 20 cows? I can remember when we milked 20 cows and were able to make a decent living. The creamery would come and pickup the cans every morning. Then it went to bulk tanks and the truck would pump out the tank 2 or three times a week. Then the trucks got bigger and the processors wanted you to milk more cows to make it worthwhile to stop to pickup. That meant a bigger tank, more cows, more equipment, more help and of course more problems. Most of the small guys quit. Now the ones who are left are milking hundreds of cows with more problems that one could count. Oh well, that's progress, so they say..

Now, if that photo were taken around here, I would guess that those are a group of cows that can't tollerate to concrete day in and day out, so they get pampered. The other 700 are couped up in the sheds.

Isn't progress great.

Dick
