This is really making me mad.

Found out from a locksmith its a Victor safe.

He gave me a couple of tricks to try. NO GO.

I guess its his turn to come open it.

This is not really off topic as the deed to my farm is in there.(:~{)

Someone told me about drilling a safe a long time back. Not sure that this works, but here goes. You drill a hole in the back of the safe and peep in at the back of the mechanism. Turn the dial until the tumblers move. I had always thought drilling meant destroying the lock, but this guy said he had did this.

As long as it's metal an air-arc gouger will get it open pretty fast with a good welder using it. Probably won't be usable again though. A welding shop might do it pretty cheap for you as it's not a typical job for them but more of an amusing one. Dave

Guess whoever gave you the safe with the wrong
combination is having a good laugh.

Well thank goodness you dont break into safes for a living, buy the sounds of things all of us on this forum would be starving or missing limbs from the explosions. But the sounds of things it may be rusted shut, and if you did get it open, i sure wouldnt want to trust it again. The safe is junk, can you use a die grinder and cut-off wheel? How thick is it, watermain saw from a rental store might work? let us know Thanks. DTURKE

Quarter stick. There are very few personal problems that can't be solved with a judicious application of a sufficient amount of high explosive. Seriously, now, I wish you luck. maybe take it to a heavy steel fabricator, with all the torches and plasma cutters, they out to be able to help.

Sounds like a quote from Edgar Montrose of Red Green fame.

Gary

I assume you are working inside.

I remember from the picture of that safe it was rusty. Have you applied any penatrating oil? I wonder if some of the lock is hanging up.

Better yet send it out to Allen and let him open it. He loves a challenge!! Only problem is he probably won't sleep until it was done8-)

Unless you already have, try the panther p.

put water around the door, let it freeze which should not be a problem in this weather, keep doing this as the ice will expand and break the door open

The bottom of a safe can somtimes be the weakest pannel. Use a cut off wheel to cut a big V then peel it open. You can weld it up and not destroy it. Better yet hire some punk to get the cut started because some old safe are double wall thick. They fill the cavity between the walls with black powder and they go BOOM!

gary...i hate to say it but it looks to me like all those suggestions for dynamite, C-4, or other explosives might be becoming a stronger option?? y'know...blowin' things up can be fun. 80)

drill, then blast in reply to mike a. tenn., 02-06-2007 04:22:31
I was once told in a very disreputable saloon that the way to open a safe was to drill a hole, fill it with water, then drop in a small charge of dynamite. The water stops paper (money, stocks, bonds, ...) from being burnt or shredded and puts the explosion directly on the walls/door instead of going to compress the air inside.

Of course the guy who told me that was more interested in working fast than almost anything else.

If you do use explosives, always remember the famous quote from a movie- "Ya Think you used enough Dynamite there Butch ? " Tyler
