I explained this wrong. The cultivator does lift by the rock shaft.But-on the back between the rock shafts is a small "barrel" thing sticking out.Is that a oil chamber or what? Thanks

Years ago, on a 1950 A, we needed more oil capacity for a for a one way cylinder wagon hoist. We attached a home made tank with a pipe union to the oil filler pipe on the hydraulic housing. That sounds like what you have. The time of year that we needed the extra oil, it tended to very slowly seep out of the ends of the rock shaft, but didn't seem to hurt anything. Hope this helps.

We had the same thing. On a 50 A and 51 B. 2" iron pipe about 1 ft long with reducer to oil filler cap. Used for wagon hoist and 45 loader for extra oil capacity. I changed loader to 2 way cylinders. Neighbor had about a gallon tank on the back of his 48 A.

The cultivators should be lifted by arms/lift rods connected to the rockshaft. If there is a cylinder hanging on the bracket ont he Power-Trol, it should be disconnected and plugs in place in the Power-Trol unit when cultivators are being used-assuming this is all original equipment. When the remote cylinder is being used, hose couplings replace the blind plugs that are used with rockshaft operated equipment. There should be covrs to protect whichever one is not being used and there is a bracket ont he right side of the Power-Trol unit to store them.
