Yeah, gets harder the older and stiffer your neck gets but it works good. I do a lot of it with the backside of the blade when the snow is loose to keep the gravel where it belongs.

Sunny: This is not about plowing ability or quality. I've seen guys push snow 15' high as one of the guys mentioned.

This really about how old your neck and upper body are. Pushing snow rearward or rear snowblowers for that matter work well into your mid forties, becomes a bit more difficult in your fifties and down right impossible at 65. At least that is what I've witnessed with my younger brother. He's 63 and had a rear blade on his farmall 230 for eons. I notice he is now pondering how to put that blade out front.

Take myself, never had a rear blade, but have done many hours of work with rear mounted or trailing implements. They weren't hard to watch years ago. If I were going to spend all day plowing now, I'd need remote TV to watch the plow. Saw one of those on a tractor back years ago when semi-mount plows were new. I thought, how ridiculous, I don't think that anymore.

Yep, theres alot of folks that have cleaned their drives with nothing but a rear blade for years. I'd suggest buying a lighter blade though, because I have a heavy duty one, and the heavy duty blades work alot better for moving dirt and jobs that require more weight to make the blade cut in, but for pushing snow, you need to be super careful not to rip up your driveway with it, especially when it first snows and the ground isn't frozen yet. The lighter blades will float on top of the ground alot easier, so they are much more suited for snow removal.

If the snow is too deep to mplow xw2hile going forward, turn the blade around and push it backward.I have pushed up piles 15 foot deep that way in a subdivision. The kids loved their mini ski mountain until the town came along, scooped it up and hauled it off.

I like a tractor with a front blade or loader and also a backblade. I can back up and drag it out ,and the front to pile it up. Use the loader on deep snow. A back blade is really really nice on the light snows as you can turn it around angle it and drag gravel drives with the back edge of the blade and it rides over the gravel for the most part. If you live where you get heavy snows get a snowblower.

In my experience with them moving snow the thing you have to watch for is that you don't get enough snow in front of the blade that the blade won't raise over it. If you get too much snow in front of the blade and the tractor spins out if you can't raise the blade over the snow you won't be able to drive forward and you won't be able to back over the snow either. I've found that a 3pt blade works best in combination with a front end loader, use the loader for deeper snow and the blade for cleanup work.

In my book they work good for weight but thats about it. I keep a blade on the back of my 841 Ford but never use it for snow. But my 841 has a front end loader on it and I made a V plow that goes on it

they are far from the best, but if you don't have the money for a loader or even a front blade they work ok.. like others have said, just not real well in deep snow... and you need lots of weight to do much good, on both tires and the plow.. in my opinion... plowed snow with one for 3 years.. Chains on rear wheels are helpful too!

They're good as long as the snows not too deep, probably no more than 6-8". After that they'll work but not efficiently. It has to be a little bit wider than the tractor, and an offset blade is really nice. They're really not good in drifts.

I've never been impressed with our 8N's ability to move snow with a blade.

Of course, the 8N is a relatively light machine and not that great on snow in the first place.

Hi folks. I keep the top link short. This will cause the blade to lift about waist high. On some tractors the drawbar might interfere on the down stroke, in that case you could just remove it. Also I try to spread the snow when off the area I am clearing. A loader or blower works better when it gets deep.
