Duner: Made a note to contact you but it got covered up. Would you please advise the pub date of your Motor manual so I can note the Herc headbolt differences in mine. Mine shows HX Series 105 lbs; JX,RX,YX Series 75; QX,WX Series 60, and RXL 80. Text refers to "...the nuts or bolts..." and does not show different lbs for nuts or bolts. Many thxx!!

Well I was quoting from First edition copyright 1943 and does not say when printed. My fouth edition does say the numbers you quote. Text say draw the nuts and bolts down evenly, repeating the operation until normally tight. After the engine has been run long enoughto warm it up a final tightening should be made with a torque wrench. I don't know which #s are correct.

Duner, thxx for info, but, if you don't mind, could you answer another question for me? My 50 issue covers 36-49, and I've been wondering whether to pick up an earlier issue. Mine has the pages for most orphan trucks, with a page showing models, years and engine used (Schacht 40A 36-38 Herc YXC3). Does your 43 have this type of info, and if so what years does it cover?? Some pix I've seen look different, and I haven't turned one up here to look at. Feel free to email. Many thxx!.

My first edition covers 1936-42 and is format is quite different from the 1951 book. for instance the Schacht in the first edition list the Continental engine on page 32 and the Hercules engine on page 99. Bork and back clutch on page 704. Transmissions on page 717 and so on. So if multiple makes used the Hercules engine you go to the Hercules engine section and get info. The 1951 book lists Diamond T and your Hercules info is there. I like the earlier book better but the later book has info the earlier book does not have regarding model # of trucks. You really should have both don't you think??

Duner, many thxx for reply and info. Yeah, they probably changed the various editions enough so that even though most info overlapped there was enough to sell more manuals; I think they call it marketing. Take care. Bud

John and BDT: Many thxx for replies; even knowing figures are confusing is better than thinking the Motor figures are correct. John: thxx again, but don"t need sequence; I"d sent my figures to Scott (slh) who asked for torque amounts and sequence on his 1-15 "Herc Headbolt Torque" post, and he"s probably got it back together by now. (Hopefully without twisting anything off!!)

Bud: In my Hercules manual for the JX engines (however book is for the four cylinder engines only) Screws marked 1041, value is 100 foot pounds. Screws marked 30-37 are either 75 or 85 depending on their position in the engine.
