It was 15 below out tonight so I came in early and watched the movie CARS with the 4 year old, and the 50's sheriff car is cruising down the new street with some wire things sticking out from the lower body. I know its a cartoon just wondering what those are suppose to be, don't remember seeing anything like that on cars that cruised around back in the day. Appreciate any replies if you know what they are suppose to be and stay warm everyone.

Yup, They were curb feelers. I remember seeing them a lot when I was a small boy in the city in the early 60's. I saw Cars with my 10yr old and 4 year old just before x-mas. Tractor tipping cracked me up!!

Thanks everyone for the replies, i didn't know there was such a thing as curb feelers, but i bet thats what they are because he did have white wall tires. Learn something new everyday i guess. It was a funny movie no matter what your age. Thanks for the replies.

That movie oughta be required viewing for all "Talers". It's a blast. My favorite character is "Mater" a '57 Chevy truck with no hood..... .or maybe "Sally" the Porshe with the "Tramp Stamp"..... ...but what was "Doc". He reminded me of a '54 Buick.

We watched that last night. Best laughs I had in a while. I thought the Police car had curb feelers on it. They were wires that would let you know when you were close enough to the curb when parallel parking. Joe

I didn't see the movie. Not wanting to show my age but rumor has it that if these were by the wheels, they may be "curb feelers" Would make a noise as you got close to the curb and didn't mess up your whitewalls. bill

Might be curb feelers....haven't seen them since the early 80's. They were popular on the pimp cruisers.

Hey, my dad didn't think his car (53 Chrysler) was a pimp car. He was in style then!
