Well I bought that 986 I was looking at. I do have a question though. I run rotella in my Dodge Cummins diesel and was wondering if that would be ok to run in this IH. I plan on changing all te filters and fluids in it this weekend if we don't get washed away. Suppose to rain next 4 days. I notice that it has idiot lights on and every once in a while the hydralic light will come on. Everything still works though. I like this sight alot it is really great place to get information. So thanks to all. Tim

When I farmed full time we ran IH. The multi-wieght gave us better service. One 5088 had 10000 hr before overhall but the norm was between 6-8000 hr.

Those IH engines really need a straight weight oil, we runt 30wt in ours year around. I think it's something about the way the cam is in the IH engines that cause them to break down the multi-weight oils faster than straight weight oils. A guy on another forum did some experimenting with oil samples and with 15w40 oil in an IH 414 engine according to the oil samples the oil needed changed at 50-60 hours.

If thats the case on muti weight oil mine should have blown up about 4000 hours ago.

15-40 for 8000 hours on a 1086 I bought new and I change every 100 to 200 hours.

Knockon wood but its never been overhauled.

Gary I really did not notice if that was when it did it. Mostly when sitting at idle. Rev it up and it goes out but the ta may have been on the low side. I'll check it out Saturday. Gotta work rest of week.

If it is ok for your cummins its ok for the IH as far as the oil goes.

Is the lite coming on when you push in the clutch and shift the ta?
