The clutch lubrication location is pictured in your operator's manual. If it dries out the clutch will stick in the engaged position. 1-800-522-7448 if your's has disapeared. May as well get the service manual at the same time.

I'd start by adjusting the free play and then if it still does it adjust the clutch by the book. You have to read very carefully as there are many different clutches in those and adjust differently. If it still does it after everything is in adjustment I'm guessing some oil or grease or rust makeing it stick. You may be able to avoid splitting it by putting it in high gear engine about full throttle then let the clutch out and hold the brakes. It should slip and burn off some of the junk and then it may work good again. DO NOT do this too long as it will get hot and if too hot may warp something which could allready be another reason it acts like it does. A warped clutch plate can act like that too.

What clutch/PTO set up does it have? Does it have a PTO? Dual stage clutch? Hi/lo Dual stage? Hi/Low Independent live PTO? Dual stage w/ reverser?

Didn't make myself clear.Sounds like you have a two stage cdlutch.Push it down part way to stop the ground travel.Push bit down all the way and the PTO stops.IF that is what you have then it sounds like one of the clutch fingers is out of adjustment. I could probably walk you through the adjustment once we decide for sure that is the setup you have.Repost tonight and let me know.

yes i do have a two stage clutch, try what you said and pto stops with clutch fully down.used the tractor about 2hours today with no trouble.i did slip the clutch in hi gear for short time.thinking may some grease or something was on it.can you adjust clutch or do you have to have a pressure gage to do that.

No pressure gauge for that, but it sounds like you may need to reset the finger heights.I have the page out of the service manual right here if you want it and I can figure out how to scan it and post it. Its a fairly easy proceedure to do.Let me know amd I'll try to post it.

If it set very much it may of had some rust on it ?

At the very least pick up a copy of an I & T shop manual. Rural King ,TSC,or even a JD dealer may carry them. Very cheap and give you the adjustment proceedure on the clutch and other stuff.
