I am putting new rear tires on my Massey 50. I am trying to decide if I should get Ag tires or turf tires. I use the tractor most of the time for mowing. The area I mow is somewhat hilly. Of course I mow when it is dry most times. Will the turf tires slip on a hillside? Would it be better to add fluid to turf tires or just go ahead and get ag tires. The area I mow is just an extra lot we own so it's not to fussy if I leave some marks from ag tires. Any help is appreciated.

Bob

I have mowed with both and can say that the type of soil is equally important. In a gravel soil I had no problem with ag tires since any marks "flattened" out with time and rain. Ag tires were fine in gravel soil.
In clay type soil, marks and tire tracks tend to stay there. My lugs and repetitive mowing made a lumpy surface and made several acres progressively harder. So I switched to industrial tires, whick I was skeptical of. I thought they were junk.
I was surprised they work very well and tear up nothing. But I can really feel the old lug marks before and it's been two years since I switched.
Maybe you could borrow a tractor with tires you want and see how they handle the slope. If the slope is not too severe i think industrial tires would be fine and I would guess the same towards turf tires.

I mow with a cub with ag tread tires and hardly ever leave marks with the lugs. With the front tires when they skid in a turn, yes or if I spin a tire a bit but the lugs hardly show. I mark More with turf tires as they are easier to spin out with. Have had both types of tires on the same garden tractor over the years also and the turfs marked more than the ag tires for the above reasons. My place is a bit hilly. If it was nice and flat I probably would be better with the turfs as the lugs do leave prints in soft ground but if you might spon a bit the lugs spin less.
