For some time now I have had this idea that I wanted to restore a wheatland tractor. I don't need it to farm with. I have enough newer tractors to do that. I just think it would be neat to have a big old wheatland tractor to use once in awhile when I felt like it. My first choice would be a 1456 (of course) or a D-21. Both of which are fairly hard to find (especially the 1456). After looking for some time now it occurred to me why not a 5020. The 5020's even seem to cost less for some reason. The 5020 is a lot more tractor than the 1456 or D-21 so why would it cost less? Am I overlooking something? Thank you

I have a 1945 Case LA they pretty common tractors and parts are not hard to come by. They can be made to pull quite strong for tractor pulls and are really fun to drive around. The big 403 CID 4 cyl. engine will bark pretty load under a load so the neighbors will alway know when you fire it up.
I have enjoyed mine to no end.

If you're looking for something a little less common why not find a D100 Versatile. That's Verstile's first tractor (no cab) and handy too. You can still get them for a reasonable price. There's one coming up for auction in June around Elkhart, IN. A G125 would also be an eyecatcher- 391 Ford (gas) was stock engine, dual exhaust and no mufflers. The cab was optional so you can go without a cab on this one too. Wanna have some more fun- juice up the engine a bit and spin all four on the track.

5020's are cheap compared to 4020's because they are not nearly as usefull for most jobs. They are very heavy clumsy tractors with not that much more hp and have 1000 only pto,no 540 shaft and no powershift option.

If it is just a wheatland tractor you are wanting to restore, have you looked at some of the Minneapolis-Moline"s? Most can be had reasonably cheap. Engine parts are redily available and most are interchangable. The engines are pretty simple as well.

I just restored a 5020. What a neat tractor ! Most 5020's had a hard life, and depending on how nice you want it, the worn out parts list can get quite long and expensive. If it doesn't have complete sheet metal, be prepared to pay big $ for these pieces.
