Anyone know anything about those wall switches they put in commercial buildings that require a special key to turn on the lights? I have a situation where I am trying to help my kid practice for the basketball team. School gym is not locked, custodian will let us use it but will not turn on lights, athletic director says it is OK but most of the coaches will come in and tell us we have to leave and then turn out every single light before they go home. If we hang around we can practice but only if we can get some light. Is there a way to turn these on without damaging something or can I get a key that will do it? I want to emphasize we are not doing anything wrong, it is just a couple of coaches who "don't want responsibility" for leaving the lights on.
I promise to turn them back off. Are the keys for these generic and can they be bought?

This one is fancier than the typical ones. Look like this?

I'll have to take a look at that switch again and see if that will work. Thanks for the link!

Of course the caretaker and the coaches are just covering their butts. Why don't you ask the school principal and if that is a negative, ask somebody on the school board or perhaps a school trustee. If you get a no in those places, then no means no and it'll be lights out basketball. Just think how good the kids are gonna be shooting in the light if they do OK in the dark. They'll be able to "shoot the lights out" as the saying goes. Good luck.

If no one at the school will give you one,I don't think I would get one from somewhere else.

You should be able to get the key at any major electrical dealer. It isn't all that fancy, just a flat pice of metal bent a certain way. If you were here TX, I would give you one. I use them all over the facility I am in charge of.

My local second-hand store has lots of keys. But I have to ask for them, he will loan me a lot to try from, then only pay for what I need. Is there anything similar in your area?
