third party image

Found this photo of a this 1086 I had for about 4 years.

Pulling it the way I was I kept having problems with the FWD.

I traded it for a newer tractor with MFWD cause I could not afford the new without a trade in.

Now I wish I had it back.

You guys ever trade anything you wish you had back?

Gary

I traded a '55 Mercury Montclair blue and white 2 dr. hardtop in on a new '63 Ford Galaxie XL 2 dr. hardtop...which I sold 6 years later when I bought a '69 Torino GT 351 2 dr. fastback,....and on and on...but, I would sure like to have that old Mercury back, it would be perfect cruiser car for the old fart that I am now.

My 67 GTO convert, my 64 V8-4speed Dart convert, my 64 Nova SS V8-4 speed hardtop and my high school car, a 48 Plymouth 2 door. I also wish I had held onto the family's Case VAC and the 9N.

I also wish I had not sold my 48 Jeep Pickup and a bunch of cars I let go of because somebody wanted them and offered me more than I thought they were worth.

Only a few of the cars I have gotten rid of I am happy about...the 78 Volare that had a vibration I never could figure out and which got lousy gas mileage, even with the slant 6, and a 73 Super Beetle that we called the "Wonder Bug" because we always wondered what would go bad next. I think those 2 cars were the worst I ever had and I was glad to see them go, even if I took a bath selling them.

But most of the vehicles I have had, I liked. I still have my 72 Duster that I bought in 75. Someday I hope to put it back on the road.

My 1969 Roadrunner,383 4-speed, Had to borrow some money from a relative to move back from Fla. in 1980 and couldn"t wait to get him paid back. That and when I got home I found out that the next door "neighbor" had conned Dad out of the 1952 8N and mower that I had grown up on. The only other thing I wish I had kept was my hearing. Another story for another time...Jf

A 1970 GTO Judge!!!! I traded it for a motorcycle and some cash. Drove the motorcycle a couple hundred miles, before parking it and selling it several years later. Never did get the cash. I was young and still trusted people.(I thought he would pay.) I think the head gasket went out of the car shortly after he got it, which happened to me several times when I got to driving it a little to hard, and the brakes needed work, so he didn't think he needeed to pay. I guess he eventually got "burned" on the deal. The car literally burned up!!! I don't know if it had anything to do with the fact that I put a cotter pin in to replace a fuse that kept burning out on the tail lights!!! It was meant to be temporary, but I guess I never got around to fixing it right.

My dad had a JF 2240 that he trade for slightly used and kept for about 14 yrs. Traded it in, then traded back for it, then traded it again. He still wants it back I think and it is still local I believe. I've been thinking when and if Iever get the money to buy it I would go get it and just give it to him.

He is half owner if a tool and die shop and in 81 their secretary embezzed almost $200,000 from them, He spent alot of time on that tractor thinking and i believe it was probably one of the things that helped keep his sanity. The day they found out he went to the bottom and broke ground most of the night.

Sold my 77 cj-5 in 95 to have extra cash when I bought my 1st home. That ol girl would lift the front right off the ground in all 3 gears. Very high torque 1970 304 in it. Ended up not even needing the extra cash cause I got a $5/hour raise at work prior to buying. My ma and pa sold my moms "57 chevy 4 dr, always garaged less than 20,000 miles for ..... .....$300 in 78 or 79. Money was tight, house payment was needed. Oh well, I did see it sitting in Elk River about 18 years ago for sale for $15,000. I sure wonder who has it now and what it is worth today.

Oh yeah!! "Sellers Remorse"

40 Ford Opera Coupe, 50 Mercury Coupe, 1947 Harley, 8N Ford with Wagner Loader, WC, WD, Farmall 450 & Cub, oh heck I guess just about everything I ever got rid of (except for the old bald tires and dead batteries).

The older I get that longer that list gets. That is what happens when you start down-sizing and the available space wont fit your "stuff" anymore.

Never to much "stuff" just not enough space.

Yep over the years theres been a few thing I wish I had never sold. 1 was a 1967 Alfa romeo 4 door sedan I had, the speedo read 200MPH and I had it up to around 165 mph. If I still had it today it would be worth around $25,000 in running shape. I found out it wasn't a common impost and was probably brough in by a service man come home. I also had a MM-R I wish I hadn't sold as cheap as I did, sold it for $500 and it ran good and had factory 3 point on it and a loader, but that was before I really started playing with the tractors like I do now. I also had a factory made ditcher tractor it was an IH but I'm not sure which tractor it was based on but it was something like a 504 etc. It had a super slow low gear and you could drop the ditcher in the ground set it in low low and walk away from it and come back 10 minutes later and it might have gone 20 feet

Dad's 806 wheatland diesel. He ran it when it was new for the neighbors, and eventually ended up with it as his only field tractor for several years before buying the 1086. We traded it in the late 90's for a haybine - I wish I could get my hands on it. It had the black tachometer and the RD pump, must have been a lower serial number.

Hoping to be able to hang on to his H, and the 1086 he bought new...

The first tractor I bought as a collector was a Oliver 99 GM D. I sold it because we moved and boy do I regret that now. They are getting harder to find.
