Hello,
I am considering buying what I feel is a well maintained Belarus 420AN and was wondering other peoples opinions on this tractor. I know that require a little adjusting etc. The one in question has 570 hours a nice self-leveling frontend loader and hay spear. The are asking 6000firm. Any issues I should be aware of? Is this a fair price? I also am looking at a john deere 2130 with canopy in good condition except for seat for 5500. the only draw back is the deere is three hours away and no front end loader. The belarus is local and will deliver etc.

Any thoughts?

I was at a sale once and there was a Belarus on it ,I was looking at it out of curiosity and commented that it had low hours and a guy next to me said that you will never see one with a lot of hrs. as they won't last long enough to get a lot of use.One of the crudest tractors tractors I ever saw.

I think the price should be allmost half as much. There are about 5 different companies that build tractors that are labled Belarus.
The 500,800,900 water cooled series, made by Minsk can break bellhousings unless the loader mounts to rear axle.
I think the 400 or 250 series started as copies of Deutz tractors from the 40s. I heard the Russians took the whole Deutz factory back with them when they took control of Part Of Germany. They still have a old look to them.
Getting parts is not a problem. There are two really good dealers in the US that ship UPS.
Partsforbelarus.com is an unofficial supplier.
If you want to wait 2-3 weeks, you can even order parts from Alex in the Ukrain. He has a website

I can only give an opinion. About 5-6 years ago my brother bought a brand new approximately 90 horse Belarus with factory cab, loader, and 4wd. Brand new he paid $18 or 19 thousand for it. He rarely uses it. Just too awkward. You get what you pay for. It is metric, crude design, parts availability will be an issue, and always some little quirk to figure out if you are used to American- made tractors. I've used it only a couple times, maybe 1 hour total, so my opinion may not be worth much. I really believe $6000 is way to much for the 420. For the same money you can get a nice, older American-made tractor with available parts, simpler to work on, and also easier to find advice and information when you have a problem. My .02. Wayne

Wayne, you mention metric, yeah they are metric alright,a russian variation of metric..regular metric bolts don't fit them either, guess russia has their own metric system? at least on their motors they do.. My FIL has 2 belaruski's,other than cheap,I can't tell you why..he's got a 420 with a broken crankshaft..and a bigger cab version..

Opinions? Three hours is a short drive on the road of life. The Deere is probably cheap as Deere's go, unless it's beat. Be-lar-us isn't cheap for what it is. Decent loaders aren't that hard to find either is a fella wants to look around a bit.
Guess it depends on how bad you want the 4WD. Keep in mind that electrical systems are ..... poor on those tractors. Cables usually need to be upgraded and the system redesigned somewhat to work properly. The engines are easy on fuel, and will lug. Beyond that, you're basically working with 1940's technology, and poor workmanship. Casting break, often at the bellhousing. Brakes are non-existent. Oil leaks everywhere.... and there's constantly some nagging little problem of some sort chasing you around. That's if you can tolerate their clumsy nature and controls enough to actually use it. We had a 520A for a number of years, and knocked it around in the woods. IT was good for stupid pulling like that, but not much else. I'd think the fella could afford to see 2 or 3 grand less if he really wants it clear of his yard. Been there, done that. Got the T-Shirt.
