Allen is right. "86" series had a major shifting problem where as "66" series didn"t. I"ve farmed with a 1066 and 1086 and prefered the 86 over the 66 series . If it has a factory cab, it"s kinda tough seeing the drawbar.
good luck

I'm Ford blue, through and through but they are IMHO the second best tractor ever made by anybody (IMHO the one better is the 1206 IH). Super great machines. My best friend has one, boiler plate tough. Of course with that said, any tractor can be worn out, abused, or just a lemon.

Hi Tim,

I'm really not qualified to comment because I've never owned one, but check the shifting and make sure it is okay and doesn't "hang up".

The 986 is really just a 966 in newer clothing. Better, quieter cab, tranny/rear end dipstick, A/C condenser out front, steel steering lines and the 436 engine instead of the old 414.

Neighbor has two of 'em and he runs the wheels off the guys. They sure seem to work okay for him.

Allan
