Is ther a method for determining the proper width to have the wheels set for pulling a plow? I have a john deere model 6200 mfwd and I pan to use an International Model 620 2x16 rollover plow currently the wheels are 94" to the outside and 57" on the inside. any help woud be greatly appreciated.

From Operator's Manual-International 620 (Two-Way) Moldboard Plow :
WIDTH OF CUT
The width of cut made by the front bottom will be determined mostly by the wheel tread of the tractor. The inner edge of the rear tire serves to gauge the cut.
Measure from the center of the power take off shield ( or some other point in the center of the tractor) to the inside edge of the right and left rear tires and set them as follows:
Bottom size---Rear Tire setting
16" cut----- ----25"
14" cut----- ----23"

As you state that your plow is 16" bottoms, according to above chart, your rear tires should by set at 50" apart (inside) sidewall to sidewall. However, a couple inches more will not cause any problem. The front slice of soil will be a little larger and mound up a little higher making the surface of the plowed field a little uneven looking. I can send you pages from manual if you need any other info regarding the plow.

Depends on the centerline of pull on your plow.

Like Gary says, the inside of the tire needs to be roughly 2" to the outside of your furrow wall.

But, you have to remember that the plow always has to pull in the center of the tractor because you pull in both directions.

Left has to equal right, both in stance and in depth.

Thanks, I also have an International 420 3x16 3 pt. mounted plow but I figure the rollover is the best way to go.

The inside of the tire should line up or be slightly wider than the right edge of the front plow share.

When throwing the dirt to the right.

Most of the plows I have owned had a chart in the book to go by. For instance I had a JD F145 and for a 4020 it said to set the right wheel 32" from the center of the tractor. Now I have a IH 666 with a JD high clearence 3-16 mounted plow and that same dimension works on it too. Most of the older mounted plows I have had, 25" from the center seems to be a good starting point.
