I got a buddy with "49 B.F. Avery with the IXB3 engine and was wondering if an IXK3 engine block or parts were the same? Any info would be appreciated.

He is wondering if he can put the front plate and distributor off the IXB on the IXK so that he can move his hydraulic pump?

Is the camshaft and crank interchangable?

Also, is there any way that you can put a water pump on one to make it run cooler?

Yes, they were the same basic engine block. The K series was actually used earlier in production and it had a 123 cubic inch displacement with a 3 1/8" bore. The B series had a 133 cubic inch displacement and a 3 1/4" bore. Different cylinder and piston displacements of couse (and different rings) but the same everywhere else. The "3" at the end of the model number relates to the number of gears at the front end of the engine. I think there were some Hercules engines with 4 or even 5 gears at the front under the front engine covers. I have a cylinder head from a K series on a B series block and it works fine.
