Here in Ky they won't sell them at all. They have to destroy them. We have a guy on our fire board that works for the telephone company and he has to send them off to be tore up. Some thing to do with the creosote in them. Tim

I would love to find REAL treated telephone poles that were in good shape for $35 apiece. They would work better than the treated 6x6's that are available to build a pole barn. But the ones I have seen around here have been in poor shape or else the phone/electric companies wouldn't let go of them. They use them over in different locations.

About 15 or 20 years ago, a contractor removed a whole bunch of railroad telegraph poles that were no longer being used. They were real nice, treated from one end to the other with creosote and I think I could have got them for about $25 apiece, delivered. Unfortunately I heard about it too late, and also didn't have any spare money right then. So I missed out...real bummer.

So if you are talking about good, treated poles for $35, I bet you can sell all you can get. Make sure it is legal. But Iowa is too far away for me. Good luck!

Hal

A few years ago our neighbor built a pole barn with telephone/light poles and the county (Greys Harbor) Red tagged him and he had to use milled treated dimensional poles as the poles he used weren"t rated. Go figure.

Our local electric coop sells used electric poles for a dollar a foot. Some are 60 years old and some are 10. The old ones are cedar and not much good but if they change a line or remove a service sometimes you can get some very nice poles for fence posts. The coop will not reuse a pole once its been in the ground and you have to cut them to at least 14 foot or smaller lenths before they leave coop property.

Good thing about the coop forcing the buyer to cut the poles into shorter lengths.

About ten years ago, I came up behind a pickup on a blacktop road with alot of black smoke coming out from underneath the pickup. Smelled bad too. Pulled out into the passing lane and then seen a another pickup pulling a long power pole with one end chained to pickup's bumper and the other end dragging on the pavement. Just shook my head and passed this "accident waiting to happened" very quickly.
