I know this probably belongs under the JD forum but I spend most of my time checking out this one so I thought I would put it here.My father sold his farm and moved to town so being the only son farming a family heirloom got passed to us. It is a van brunt grain drill. All galvanized boxes with big steel wheels on the ends.It was purchased new by my great grand father and it came with the original owners manual.I was wondering if anyone could help me in finding out how ould it is.Will poast pictures when we get it unloaded. Thanks

Pic and link are ones I posted a while back of a JD B drill on rubber. I hope you can put the drill to use. John Deere made many versions of the B drills from 40s to sometime in early or mid 50s. It shows the B model drill in JD pocket ledgers I have from 1948-51 but no longer lists the B model by 1958. I wouldn't rule out they made B drills up to late 50s or early 60s when the DRA drill came out. So not sure exact years when built. I do have info on B drill accessories and assembly manuals showing there were fertilizer attachements and also a hydraulic cylinder lift brackets hitch available too. I'm sure many early ones could be ordered on steel. You could get hoe press drills on steel wheels into the late 1980s!

You have a real jewel there. bout 10 years ago I bought a 20X7 model B vanbrunt on 16 inch rubber. Originally got it to seed hay ground and almost immediatly we decided to sell the cows. (I shed no tears over this)

Still have the drill and use it to seed the occasional waterway. Also have used it to put in some soybeans with real good success.

Came with the Mechnical power lift and still has it. Have had more fun with that drill than a barrell of monkeys.

I thought model B drills only came from factory with wheels for tires. JD made a EE that came on steel. Tx Jim
