Anyone out there have experience with 7020, 7040, 7045 or 7060's? Looking to add one in this range but do not know what kind of specific problems these have compared to deere or IH.
Weaknesses or bad points as well as good ones would be appreciated.

My friend has a 7040 with power shift and a 7060 with power director transmissions. I hate the cabs. If you are a very small person they might work, but I challenge anyone to try to clean the two lower right windows inside that cab! You just gotta have an arm extention of some sort.

The powershift tranny on the 40 will lock the back wheels and you will slide to a stop if you push the clutch all the way to the floor. I don't know if this is "normal" but I don't like dealing with it. His 60 with power director is starting to be hard to get in gear- again this may be just an adjustment problem. He replaced the rod and main bearings upon purchase of both tractors. To my knowledge he has not had a major problem/expense on either tractor. Cheap power arround here, but I wouldn't own one if it had a cab.

We have a good share of them around here, and the only major problem I have observed is the 426 engine tends to throw rods if the crank bearings aren't changed every two thousand hours. I know of three locally that put a hole in the block because of a rod bearing failure and when I was in an Allis dealer's shop a few years ago they had an 8050 and a 7060 sitting there with a hole in the block in both of them. The mechanic there claimed the block spreads and the front main bearing leaks too much oil pressure away. A close neighbor has a 7060 with quite a few hours and he hasn't had any more problems with it than any other brand. Another neighbor has a 7040 and it has given him very good service.Jim

The cabs do kinda suck on the 7000 series. I have driven a few...I really liked the 7000 4x4 the trans shifter you pushed forward and back plus twisted it to put in three gears...3 up and 3 down. For 4x4 get the one with 2 mufflers dont know why but single had motor trouble. Power shift in 8000 worked just like 4020, but what little bit I know about them I think Id rather have a 7 than an 8000. Motor is easy to work on and there cheap...yes. The only bad thing that Ive seen is 2 of them with completly shot motors and one of them had bad hyd. Prevenative maintence or any maintence is the key word. These guys had none...so thats a good coomment.

8000 series...my dad has a mechanic friend who thinks if it aint green it should be shot. He will work on anything and he is picky...when he overhauls a motor every bolt is run over a wire brush. Any way he worked on an 8050? mfd and he said it was worthless. Had trouble with it starting or running or something. All I remember is that HE SAID that they had trouble with the crank shaft staying in place up front I think? Tried shimming it and etc and wound up putting a grease zerk on the front of the crank. Sounds kinda funky and I didnt see it, but I have no reason to not believe him. Plus the 8000 I drove on spring I had to either it on a 50 degree morning and you open up the door and all of the heat (A/C) goes out because 1/2 the cab is open...Kinda like the old Masseys.

I kinda like the shifting for the most part (diveder) on 7000 except I drove a power shift and a 1086 was a heck of a lot better than that thing...might of just been a bad one.

Just my experince

I have a 1979 model 7045, with approx 7500 hours. Good tractor, haven`t had any trouble with it in the twenty odd years have owned it, just normal up keep and the alternator that it came equipped with threw that sucker away and went with delco. No one could work on the neanoff ( I know not spelled correctly)and the parts had to come from Florida. The only kick I got is it a little slow geared.

I have had both 7000s and 8000s,they are the second best Trouble free tractors(Deere and then A-C)ALL Planatary rear ends,Closed Center Hyd.,Trouble free On the go HI-Lo,.Look for a 8000 series, about the same money with a far better cab.(More Room and a clutter free floor)Now the bad don't buy a 7030--7050--7080 or 8070,they did have some troubles.Parts and service is the other Bad Part,Agco has eleminated about all the Older Dealers so that is a serious Problem,IF you have or know of a good Dealer they are a Great Tractor.

I've had several friends and neighbors that have had them. I really haven't heard any bad stories. I used to have a 200, which is similar to a 7000. I liked it. The big thing at least around here you can buy'em cheap. I have seen good 7040's and 7000's go at auction for under $5000.00. I watched a good looking 7040 a couple of years ago, with good paint, tires and cab, sell for $4800.00.
