I am re-assembling the engine on a 1948 Farmall C. It was dis-assembled when I bought it. I am missing one stud that goes from the head up thru the valve lever shaft end bracket. The stud has threads on both ends. The end that goes in the head is a coarser thread than the other end. The part number for the stud is 45 574 D. The valve lever end bracket is part # 42 099 DA.

I was also missing the nut that goes on the valve lever center bracket. A replacement nut fits the short stud at the valve lever center bracket, and also fits the original stud that is for the valve lever shaft end bracket.

Here's my problem. The replacement bolts I was going to use for the valve lever shaft end bracket don't screw into the head. I was going to use bolts of the correct length until I could get replacement studs for the original one I'm missing.

I'm wondering if the head is tapped to an odd size for these studs. Can anybody help?

The nut at the top is 3/8" NF. I can't imagine the hole in the head being anything other than 3/8"-16 tpi NC.

Here's the parts drawings for the (similar) Super "A", showing the same part numbers you have for the support and stud. Unfortunately, they do NOT specify the thread size and tpi on the end that screws into the head.
