I have a 1948 Farmall C and was wondering how they ever got away with not bolting the front crank pulley on to the crankshaft. What keeps the thing in place and the oil seal from being destroyed by the pulley moving back and forth.

Some of the older ones had a set screw, modern replacements are just press-fit.

You can always drill and tap it to put a set screw in the newer ones. I've done it, works fine.
