Hi Gang;
This is the JD 710 built in Manheim Germany (the others in the series were 310 & 510) the first JD tractors built in Europe in the old Lanz factory.
They utilized JD engines mater to Lanz rear axles & gearboxes, and were NOT successfull nor reliable tractors.
This 710 was approx 70HP gross, 4 cyl diesel with 10F & 3R gears. Aimed at the Ford 5000-MF175 market (who were the market leaders here in that power class).
Not many imported in England, and very few have survived into preservation. Parts are almost impossible to locate.
Cheers David

David,
Know quite a few of those tractors in our country (The Netherlands). The lift capacity of the 3-point was not great. IMHO, their reliability was not bad at all and they held their value very well. The 310 had frame rails and the engine was suspended on modern rubber engine mounts thus reducing vibrations. The transmission input shaft has two flexible joints.

David

While they didn't get into the US, they were relatively common here in Canada. We have two 510's here on our farm and I would disagree with the reliability statement. Both are working tractors and have to earn their keep.

Their hydraulic system was their weak point. Engines have been reliable and fuel effiecint. A synchronized trany would have been nice. Has LPTO. I have found some parts availability poor.

I see the restored tractor in your pic lacks some original parts. The seat is the wrong style and you are missing the plastic/rubber covers on the rad cap and fuel cap.

Wish ours looked that nice

John

The middle rib on the front tires are interesting. Are they common over there?

These tires are not common, I've never seen them here (The Netherlands)

Sounds like we were lucky not to get them. The models we did get were and are very good tractors.

Too bad they weren't better. It's kind of a cute little cuss.

David,
The 710 and 510 were sold new in Canada, some have come south over the years and once in a while you come across one still being used. I believe the engine was the U.S. built one that went into the JD 2020..?.We had one for a while when we farmed in U.K....some of the gears I remember were very close, you had a ten speed but in reality it was more like a six,I kind of liked it....Roger..U.S.
