Hi Guys, I'd like to thank you all for your replies regarding diesel additives yesterday. I bought some Power Service Diesel kleen and Cetane Boost is this what I need for my Ford 3000 diesel ? Also what is best, to raise the Cetane boost 3 numbers, or 6 numbers ? Thanks again, you guys sure are helpful. Doug

Hi Doug,

You bought the wrong stuff Doug. You bought the Power Service gray bottle that is only a cetane booster and is worthless at that. It gives NO freeze (gell) protection what so ever.

What you wanted is Power Service white bottle. This will add freeze(gell) protection to #2D.

It will not hurt a thing to add PSwb to the PSgb you've already added to the fuel tank.

They also sell Power Service 911 to thaw out gelled diesel. I've here it works as advertised but have never used the stuff my self.

I'm in Phoenix where we don't get winter diesel at all so I have to treat my own #2D when I head to the mountains. I also use the PSwb for that.

To thaw out a gelled diesel takes about 24hrs to 48hrs of heat so I don't rely on anyone to treat my fuel other than myself.

I like the Lucas the best and as an example we took a friend's 500 diesel to a pull. It had not been to a pull or even run for a few years, almost full tank of old fuel. It started missing and I got a gallon of Lucas out of the semi poured it in and left it set running. She was smoking and sounded terrible, about 15 minutes later we looked over and thought it had died walked over and it was running as smooth as could be no smoke, the owner said it had never ran so good , got 2nd place. I use it in the semi frequently and when I change fuel filters I fill them with it, really keeps the injectors clean. A friend of mine was going to replace his injectors ($3000) told him to get three gallon of Lucas, changed his filters, filled them up and poured the rest of the gallon in the tanks repeated this twice more and it ran like a top. Been 2 years and still runs good, he keeps it in his truck all the time.

All of those who replied to your question have more experience and credibility than do I, so take this for what it's worth.

A few months back I got a bad batch of fuel in my '04 Dodge/Cummins. A ton of money and a lot of discussion later the question came up that if I had had Power Service in my truck would that bad fuel have burned causing no problems. Also, does it increase mileage.

There is no objective answer to the contaminated fuel problem except to be VERY careful about buying clean fuel and record mileage when purchasing fuel to know who sold you the fuel.

I am, however, a 1000 miles into a 3000 mile trip using Power Service to test if there is a measureable increase in mileage. This is not a scientifc test by any stretch but I did make the same trip last year pulling the same trailer, etc. without Power Service. So far there is no descernable difference in mileage. I'll post the results, if any, after the trip next April.

I agree, additives in a diesel are a waste of money. If you buy good quality clean fuel thats all you need. Some additives can damage new style electronic injectors because they suspend water in the fuel, and water and electronic injectors do not mix.

You don't have a water trap on your fuel systems?

You know your supplier and you trust him to have good fuel but how about when you're out on the road and a thousand miles from home? And it's 15 below at sundown and you're gonna get a room for the night? Having faith and positive thinking are good, but you still have to prime the pump once in awhile!

Oh Now Pashaw,

If you buy it two cases at a time, they work very nicely stacked on one another as a door stop. :>)
