Not to start a color war but I am looking at a v10 '97 Dodge to replace my F250 92 that I have just worn out hauling on the farm. I am not a Dodge person and I also cannot justify the price of going to a diesel the way things rust out in NE. Anyone have comments on the v10? Thanks

Thank you all for your replies and your thoughts have been helpful in deciding the break point between this or a diesel

How much are you hauling ? I have a 1996 Dodge with the 360 gas and it does really well. If you are hauling alot you may as well just get the diesel model.

I had a 95 v10 w/5 speed. It"s kind of the ultimate truck engine - huge torque and hp while quiet and smooth. Lots of folks put them in front of 4.11 gears which made them use lots of gas. I ordered mine with 3.54 gears and got 14mpg on the highway and never ran out of power. The only time I came close is when I was pulling a full 650bu wagon up hill in a soft field - it warmed up a little. I have a diesel of the same year now that wasn"t taken care of and is falling apart - the v10 was in good shape at 130K miles, but I think the chance you take with dodge (good parts, maybe not the greatest design - when I worked at Chryco in Detroit in 1985 trucks were not designed, they "happened").

Hope this helps, Pat

Just the truck itself 10mpg will be normal. If you need that much power buy diesel will cost more per gallon but will get you better milage and alot better durability. Price an injector on a v 10 as well, I cant remember exaclty but one was in the shop I used to work at injector problem and I think if i remember right it was around 300 bucks for an injector x10

The only reason to buy dodge is to get the best
diesel engine, if you want the best ride and handling buy a GM product , if you want the worlds worst design front end ( twin I beam ) buy a ford.

Like Jerry said, not good on gas 8-10 mpg. I own a 96 dodge with a 5.2 magnum engine, average 17 mpg's and its got a ton of power . My 2 cents, Dave
