Hello all. I just purchased a Farmall A sn 169614 yesterday. She starts and runs clean, but I was told she needs a clutch. I don't want to ask lots of how to questions. What I could use is advice on what manuals, OEM or aftermarket, you have found to be best for doing service. Also do you have favorite sources for the small parts?
I figure while broken, replace the rear oil seal, oilpan gasket, and take a look under the valve cover. Do you have any suggestions on who can supply those seals?

Thank you for any suggestions.
Craig

Congrats on your purchase. As for parts, I have had very good luck with parts from this site. Do not expect them to know much, however. Ya gotta be your own expert. Prices are reasonable and shipping usually takes around 48 hours. Yep, 2 days... The manuals on this site are worth the money. You might be able to go to eBay and save some cash, just be sure to get the factory manual. The I&T can leave much to be desired. There are going to be some parts that have to come from your local dealer. That determination is up to you. Be sure to label every part when disassembled as they will pile up quick. Ziplock baggies and a permanent marker are requirements. Start slow with realizable goals. Go for the big kahuna when you can afford it. Many projects are laid on the floor cause folks lost interest when the money got low. Good luck and kep your eye on the prize.

Let's go Mountaineers,

Aaron

The best manuals that I"ve found for IH tractors are the reproductions from Binder Books dot com, no spaces. Check "em out.

I used to battle trying to find the best deal on parts. Anymore, I just call my CaseIH dealer and have him ship them to me. Since I started buying all my parts OEM Ive noticed something amazing. I may still get the wrong part, but they dont worry about any special order charges any more, more importantly, when I have a question about 'how to' they offer to call 'Joe' to the phone fromback in the shop. I'e had 'Joe' (and Steve) spend a half hour with me on the phone talking me through a how to. The service is worth it to me. Its kind of like buying stuff at Walmart or the local hardware store. They may cost more at the hardware store, but, to me, its the right thing to do.

I was just saying why would I give $5.00 + shipping or fuel for the same freeze plug I can get at napa for .50

the case/IH dealer is 60 miles away also the napa dealer is 2 miles away.

I did buy some parts at the IH place but i'm not going to throw money away either.

One place to get your parts, is your local Case/IH dealer.

Congrats on your purchase.
