Is there any way to shorten a temp gauge cable so that it will still work .I have a working one that has a lead that is 2 feet to longer than i need, and no place to hide the excess. Frank

Or get an electrical gauge like I did.

Actually it can be cut and spliced, but its not easy. you have to freeze the bulb to hold most of the liquid, then you can cut the tiny tube and change its length, then you swage it or find a tube to fit over the outside and splice it. There's a web page somewhere I've seen that tells all the details. Its not a trivial task and I don't know what happens to the calibration.

Yep can't cut if mechanical one or you'll let the gas out of tube and sensing bulb. A neat trick is to find the length needed and wrap the excess neatly around a 1" to 1 1/2" shaft or dowel rod to form it in a self supporting coil that doesn't have to be tied up someplace. Remove the rod when you're done of course.

after you make the coils, cable tie them together so they don't spill out into a slinky

Frank,

I assume your talking mechanical guage? Can't cut it; wrap it in a loop and hang 'er somewhere.
