Three trucks.
2000 f350 7.3..... ...2006 f350 6.0..... ....2006 f350 6.0.all diesels.
One of the 06 6.0.....when you start it 2-3 minutes later you can't see it for a fog from exh pipe.It will clean up after 10-12 minutes. No abnormal useage of any fluids.Ford says it is normal .took the other trucks back said explain why them do'nt. other 2 trucks seen normal tpye of smoke.

Any of you 6.0 diesel owner had this problem.

I have an 04 with the 6 liter and it has done that to me a time or two. If I let the truck idle for a long while then take off it leaves a large cloud of bright white smoke. Also if I start it on a cold morning before letting the little glow plug indicator go off it will do that also but not as bad as youre describing. Also please note that cold to us in College Station is a 40 degree morning. It was 72 here today. I"d take it in to another dealer though. Caleb

I drive a 6.0 liter work truck. If it idles for about 10 minutes and then you take off hard, you would swear there was a tire fire in the back of the truck...
A bottle of sea-foam every other fill-up or so seems to help.
What are you doin with all those trucks?

Some diesels just smoke when they're cold. I had a Hino with a rebuilt engine that would smoke real bad on start up but then clear up and have none. It didn't have any electronic controls though. Dave

So what are you doing, just starting it up and letting it sit or what? 10 or 12 minutes would be about how long it would take to warm up enough to disapate the "smoke" it makes on cold mornings.

John This is not only on cold mornings.
It's any time that engine has not run for 5-6 hours. It don't make any different what the out side tempture is.It is very embarrassing to drive.NEW TRUCK!!!!.

Sounds like my 03,,Bad EGR valve or something with the EGR system(twice).I only kept it year and half and 45,000 Mi.because they had it more than I did.Might have that checked but they were supposed to have that fixed. My 05 has been perfect after they(Ford) figured out why the Computer was shutting the turbo off under high loads(man.Trans)..Good Luck.

Allan,it is just Paper HP..Cubic Inches is still the only answer.I have run the same route for 20 some years and my 05 6.0 will not make the trip loaded any faster or easer than any of my past 7.3s Turboed or Power Stroke or non Turbo (180 HP).NON of them have been Modified(only Ex.)The 6.0 should never have had a Standard Trans.put on it(NO starting Torque at all)Have to use two more Gears on them Compared to the 7.3s..The dealer said I have a 450 Pickup coming but I'am very ????? on taking it,wait and see I guess.

Allan the 2 6.0 belong to the boys.
i drive the ole 2000 ever day I can't imagine any one needing more horse than them trucks have.
Any of these boys having trouble with them they are asking for trouble.
Allan the Boys have connection to the new i'll get them to put one under a trailer. That 14 ought to make a fair test.they'll have to take some extra fuel.that the only down fall.the fuel tank just dod'nt last for enough.

I'llsee what they can do.

have a good one.

Bill, I also have a 2005 F350 with a 6.0 diesel. Last winter it did like yours. I took it to the dealer for a factory recall. I has not smoked agian. You should have lots of warranty left on that engine. Take it to a dealer for a check-up. There is probably a sensor problem that will be a simple fix.
Hope this helps.

I've been told to stay away from the 6 L diesel at all costs by friends who have owned them. Don't know how true the stories are.

The late 2003 and most of the 2004 6.0s were nothing but problems. Then Navistar basically redesigned the engine for a second time, from 2005 on they are as solid as the 7.3s they replaced only with more power. The only thing I question is how the computers and wiring will hold up when the truck is 10 years old, but thats a question for all new vehicles.

Their telling you wrong.
If the trucks are left stock When Purchased they give no prblems.
There ain't one thing them engines need after factory.(EXCEPT) a FUEL TANK>).

They'll get mine fixed..
