Hi Guys,

Yeah, I wasn't gonna spill the beans 'cause it wasn't my money doing the talking, but since he opened the door, I guess he is okay with me showing you fellas the pictures.

Gary over in the far corner of Iowa bought himself one fine tractor today at what I would consider a very reasonable price.

When I bought my 1066, I had my choice of a set of twins that was setting on the dealer's lot. I didn't even drive this one at that time; didn't like the looks of that precleaner.

I should have. This beast is a bull! :>(

When I first saw the Air Cleaner setup I thought that they just wanted to save the tubing also. After looking a little closer seems more likely that they just wanted to have that pipe out of the field of vision so they could match the green and yellar ones.

Gary I would wonder the same thing as you as to whether you can get enough air through that setup. For my money I would remove it. Those precleaners work pretty well as long as you don't get anything very large in them. Found that out with a 2294 case that needs new foam seal around the radiator.

It would take me a while to get adjusted to that air cleaner setup. It is functional and not that bad of an effort. Initial reaction would be to take it off, but after more consideration would leave it on. I have a similar setup on a 4166, but the inlet air and exhaust were closer together and therefore didn't require that ugly offset "box" Really does work good, not much dirt gets to the expensive air filter.

Hi Ron,

That's kinda what I've been hearing too.

To be brutaily honest about it tho, and Gary knows this, I was really wanting to find a "Year-Around" cab so that I could just bolt it on the tractor.

Trouble with a factory cab, there is one heck of a lot of "swapping" around that has to be done. From the engine fan pulley clear down to the battery trays, flooring, steps, sheet metal, lighting and the wiring harnesses. It's all gotta be changed over from one tractor to the other. :>(

I'm sure not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth, but wonder if maybe I can talk him into just loading up my old 686 instead and let's forget this whole darned "swap" thing. :>)

That is a pretty straight old 1066. It's pretty hard to go wrong with a 1066, we've got three of them because they're such a handy tractor. We don't really NEED all three but the last one was a one owner black stripe non-cab model that belonged to our neighbor that we bought last winter with 1,806 original hours on it that we really couldn't pass up.

Yes Sir,

I still have trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that these are "old" tractors.

Kind of a timeless classic, to my way of thinking. :>)

Nice, beefie tractor you have there. I can sure see why you didn't want to let that one get away.

Guys, When I was stillin the Panhandles we had converted our 4840s and 4640s over to the R&W Air Precleamer setup. They work really well. The air cleaners were amaisingly cleaner at service time!
Though I have never personally seen the conversion for an IH before this pic. But since there isn't a a vertical air intake pipe on an IH, it surenogh gets te job done. It looks to be a pretty clean instalation, the only hole cut was directly over the air cleaner comming throughh the hood.
Surenough a nice lookig ol'Darlin, Gary! what a find!!! ENJOY.
Later,
John A.

The air intake is interesting. Is that factory or someones idea of how it should be. Must not have wanted to buy any longer tubing. One of those get by deals.(I can make that my self and save $$$$$) Now if you go through it like allan does you will have a tractor with now problems.

This old tractor really surprised me.

Every blessed thing works except one hazzard flasher bulb and it has a bad cab mount insulator.

Look at that original seat. :>)

In all my days of dealing with tractors I've never seen a pre-cleaner tube made like that one. Good side is Gary won't have to clean air filter very often as that little flex hose sucks alot of dirt! Tx Jim

I've never seen one like that either JIm.

Is there enough square inches in the square part to let in enough air?

Must be working though.

Gary

I bet it's big enough Gary. That precleaner probably saved it's life. Sure looks better offseting it from the front view and better than some I've seen rigged under the hood with tubing and hose. Then you got to worry that hose doesn't get a leak.

The 1066 and the 4020 may be two of the most popular tractors built in modern times. Does any one know the production numbers. This is like comparing apples and oranges, but they are very popular.
