OK, Allan and you other guys in the Northern plains, you didn't HAVE to send that cold air down here. 19 degrees here, supposed to get into the low 40s today. According to the national weather map, its supposed to be warmer than that in NE and SD today. Enjoy.

Cheer up, you cold state guys. Some years ago an older ND lady was quoted as saying the cold weather kept the riff-raff out.

After spending all those years up in the northern part of North Dakota, every day feels like a south pacific sun drenched beach to me.

My word! That was rough!

At 34 degrees below zero or colder, take yer coffee cup outside and toss that hot coffee up in the air. It completely vaporizes and disappears before it hits the ground. :>)

Where in northern ND? I grew up in Towner County (for those that don't know, that's a north border county) and now live in southern MN. I can recall living a mile from our school and riding behind a team of horses pulling a grain box on a sleigh as our way to get to school in the "dead" of winter. (In warm weather we walked "as they say, uphill both ways" for that mile) We would be so cold when getting to school that we had to sit by the stove for several minutes to warm up before doing any school work. At least one family had a "hack" (an enclosed unit sort of like today's fish houses, heated with a very small stove burning wood and coal) on a sleigh, they had it made!

That`s the truth, too. I now live back near my hometown in central MN. Just out of high school, I lived in East Grand Forks, and did dirt work. The company I worked for would go thru a good part of the winter, working at the beet plant. We`d go in and clean out the drainage lagoons. Talk about cold, sittin on a D8 with a makeshift heat houser, in -25 with a 30 mph wind. You got tough skinned in a hurry.
Lucky for us our shop was right behind the beet plant, so we`d walk most of the equipment back every night.
Now working mostly in my heated shop, I run outside at -5 and think I`m gonna freeze to death. I guess it`s all what you get used to though.

I know the feeling! When I was a young man, I worked for a small concrete co. They owned old Dodge 2 ton trucks that none of the heaters worked in. One of the guys asked the one owner, "when you ever gonna fix the heaters", John, the owner said "never!, if I fix the heaters you guys will get to the job and sit in the trucks all day, now you can't wait to get out and get to work!"....He was right!
