Which service do you folks have? Directv or Dishnetwork? I want to get RFDTV and my local cable company doesn't have it so I am switching now that I have a HDTV. Appreciate any feedback on your experiences with either one.

If all you're looking to get is RFD-TV, have you looked into FTA (Free To Air) satellite TV. You buy or find an old dish and receiver and pick it up free. You can also get many other channels of interest. Have fun.

if you have more than one tv to connect then dishnet will be cheaper as you can connect two tvs and watch two different shows at the same time for the price of one receiver as long as you have a land line phone. Directv still charges five bucks for the second tv. both services have rfdtv in the basic pakages. you mentioned hdtv that is a add on pakage with both services if you deceide you want it it seems a little expensive to me for what you get. personally i have directv. simply because they carry a channel called sprout which is for little kids very educational and fun. By the way I am a installer that does both dishnet and directv.

I have a big 8-foot dish, and I sprang for a 4dtv unit. When I was last attempting to re-aim the dish, RFDTV was coming in just fine, and I don't pay a subscription to anything. Lots of stuff is free on the digital side of the 4dtv. For local weather, I got an HDTV tuner and hooked it up to my non-hdtv television. Local weather comes in off the antenna on my roof.

Of course, I don't have a missus to complain about how bad the big dish looks out there in the yard!

Cable runs right past our place. Glad to not have another envelope to put a stamp on each month.

I don't have either .I found a pair of rabbit ears in the garage had them hooked up for a week to watch the news. The news was that there was even more commercilas than I remembered. Why would I want a dish so I could pay to watch commercials????? ???

I've had both at different times, never noticed any significant difference between them. Pick whichever one gives you the best deal on equipment & packages for what you want.

I guess I'm going to have the chance to make the comparison. We've had Dish for several years, no complaints. Never been out of order, runs $49 per month, including local channels. I have DSL for computer at work, but Mrs. struggles with dial-up at home. Cable is available, but they wanted $105/month for cable TV and fast internet- no thanks. Now Quest (the phone company) is running DSL up our road, and have some kind of arrangement with Direct TV where you get unlimited phone and long distance, Direct TV and DSL internet for 96 bucks a month. She signed us up, without so much as a fare-thee-well from me. Guess I'm losing whatever grip I had around here, but gotta admit, it is a pretty tasty deal.

You should check the packages for each before buying either. For what I have DTV was cheaper than Dish, for what my brother has, Dish was cheaper that DTV. I have no complaints with DTV,Ive had them since the mini dishes came out back in the 90s, waivering once to a lightning strike which took out both boxes I had, went with cablefor a month and dropped them because of the really poor service.I had DTV turned back on on new boxes, one with TIVO.

I have Dish Network (aka Echostar). I have outside antenna for now so I get local channels in HD free. Programming packages seem to me to be more comprehensive and economical. I pay by the year and get one month free. Customer service has always been good but with pricing options for recorder systems, hd packages, charging for receivers (new customers) etc, they are getting closer to cable prices.

I've got NFL network - anybody want to come over for Thursday night football? Go Bengals - maybe Browns will get it together this week.

I have Dish and have had good luck with it and the two times in the last 4 years I needed service they were there the next day once and 2nd day the second time. I was not out of service either time. One thing I sure recommend is to get the DVR (recorder) when you get service. You cannot watch one channel and tape another but it works great when that RFD-TV show comes on at 4 AM. Maybe the best thing about the DVR is you can pause live TV if the phone rings or you need to be away from the set for a while. You come back and pick up where you left off. Also if you have Caller-ID it will show up on the TV screen when the phone rings.

A friend of mine just had Dish reinstalled this week as their new house was finished. Wed Dish blocked all the eastern channels something to do with commercial sponsors. Installer said the loop hole to get these channels is to provide proof of RV ownership. I am going to give him the title to an old travel trailer.

I have Directv, don't know if they are going to, or have already done the same thing. I haven't watched tv since the world series. I don't know what part of the country RFD comes from but just checked and it is still on my Directv. Western Wa.

I have/had both and I will not ever get dish network again. There tell you one thing and then do another as far as billing. As with any thing read the fine print there are hidden things in either company

You will not get local weather on either of the two you are contemplating. At least we don't get it here.Just moved to where cable is not an option.Sure hate the loss of local weather we got on the Weather Channel with our old cable service.

I have DirectTV and it is ok, it has RFDTVin the basic package. When it rains real hard, it doesn't work worth a tinker's dam, but that is the case with all small sats....

I have DirectTV here in Northern NJ. My primary reason for selecting it is because I hate the cable companies so much. Have the same problems when it rains or snows . . . get alot of "digital" interference. Otherwise reception is fine.

My biggest problem is that where I live is surrounded by large trees. There was only one open "slot" via which I could aim the dish (from the highest point on my house, the chimney actually )at their satelite. Unfortunately after 3 years, the tree it was aiming over has grown enough that I can"t use the TV when the leaves are on the tree. Have to either take down the tree or top it. Make sure you check for clear sight to their satelite before you sign up!

Aloha, Maybe you could raise the height of the dish by putting it on a pole.
