Well I figured it would probably happen and it did. I was discing along the trench where my neighbor had put in the water line to his new house. It was through the new hayfield and it was pretty wet when they trenched (and still is), but I wanted to try to smooth it out a bit for him before all this weather hits tomorrow. When I crossed over about the 6th time the front sunk and the right rear of my farmall M went with it. Stuck up to the wheel weights. I got the front up some and filled in under with sand. I need to get the front up about another 6-8" and then I got some 1 1/2" plywood to stick under so I can back out to (somewhat) solid ground. Just got to get the right side up too. Got an 8 ton bottle jack and plenty of 4x4's and 6x6's and plywood. I think I'll be good putting the jack under the right side of the 3pt. hitch to lift, it's pretty solid. I got until 4 or so tommorrow according to the weatherman, then it's bad storms. I'm at work today so she's got to sit till morning. Should be enough time to get it out and then get a beer. I'll post some pics if the camera batterys not dead. Yee Haw!

I stuck my 830 Case earlier this fall and tried a method suggested by a co-worker who farms. Chained an unmounted tire to the wheel... actually had to do it on both sides because all I had were some 14" tires and even sideways aren't much wider than 15.5s. Worked pretty well, be careful if you have fenders in the way. Good luck you don't have much time, jim

I am not sure on this for safety reasons but isn't there a way to chain about a five foot log to the outside of the tire so when it comes around it will lift the tractor out of the hole. I am thinking I heard of people doing that before but I wouldn't want to see you flip the M over. I heard it picks them right up and sometimes out of a hole.? Good luck. Careful

Grandpa has told me stories about getting a tractor out that way. Usually ends with someone getting hurt. Another tractor and a solid chain or cable is the way to go.

When I was a kid my dad just handed us a shovel and would pull the keys. After we thought we had it dug out he'd come back to inspect our work then yell at us for a while before making us dig for a couple more hours. When it finally met his approval HE would start the tractor and drive it out, he didn't want us tearing up his equipment by trying to rock it out of a hole. Then we'd get the shovel back to fill in the hole.

After a couple experiences like that you learned to stay the *&^% out of those spots.

Came out pretty easy with the bottle jack and cribbing. Took me about as long to get all the stuff out to the tractor as it did to jack it up. I got it smooth enough with the disk so my neighbor can finish up with his little JD when it dries up.
