Some how that post got 90% lost.
I read in sunday's paper the NY will cost share retrofiting tractors with ROPS at 70%. I mentioned to Mrs. that I wanted to look into it. Her response surprised me.
Her, " you need that why"?
Me, "Uh... so I don't get killed in a roll over"?
Her, "You shouldn't be driving where you could roll over".
Do you think I am over insured?

Also keep in mind that when mounting lights to use the factory tabs provided for lights. Any drilling or welding on the ROPS will render it inefective, in an insurance companies eyes.

I agree, cannot beat being safe, and definatly go for the canopy to keep the sun off your head, gives ya a place to put an amber blinky light to keep the ding bat drivers from running into ya. Cheers Mike

What NYS agency or department is writing the checks?

OK . Now that I'm home I can fill in some details.
"State officials announced a new state-funded rebate program for farmers who make their tractors safer. The new program offers rebates covering up to 70% of the costs to install protective devices to reduce rollovers and rollover injuries.
For more informtion call 877-767-7748"
It doesn't say which department is writing the checks.

i'd go for it, the rops is definately a good thing to have. many years ago i worked for the township highway dept. was running an i-h 2444 with a bush hog on the back, mowing ditches along the road. had the ground give way under the left rear tire, tractor slid down the ditch and rolled over on its back. found myself buckled in hanging upside down in the ditch.thank god for the rops. other than a couple dents the tractor was fine too!!

I added a rops to our 1855 about 2 yeasr ago, but it really wasn't for the rollover prtection(although it is a good thing to have) but more for the canopy that came with it!! On a hot day, I love that tractor because it keeps the sun off my head. If you go with the ROPS, try to get a canopy fitted to it too, you'll love it.

Donovan from Wisconsin

It also makes a great place to add extra work lights to get over the top of some things to really see what's going on. I added 2 lights to the top where the flashers would originally be (kept those on the fenders which are farther out) and they really help vs. the 1 light on the fender otherwise...

Yup! We had a young priest that quit the church to get married a few years back. He married a young widow that had collected on a multimillion dollar insurance policy. We referred to Father Tom as "Lucky" after that!

While you probably should not be driving anywhere that would present a roll over risk, there are other factors which can cause one to roll such as load height with a loader, slippery ground, etc etc.
If you think a ROPS would be a benefit, sounds like a good thing.

I have never had one, but would not be adverse to one I guess.

Seems like they would only work if you had a seatbelt on....which I can't imagine myself using.
