MY friend has a 94 chevy p.u.with a 305 tbi. it dumps an excessive amount of fuel until it warms up, exhaust is black. It must have a bad sensor that tells the computer to choke it until it's warmed up. Which one would it be? thanks..

Possible ,Coolant temp sensor or wire harness at sensor, insulation wears off on these. check for any vacuum leaks, stuck open egr valve? Will cause MAP sensor readign to be low and run rich .Also leaking or dirty injector ? Quite a few things ,would help if we saw some cold engine and warm running data . If i was to shoot from the hip , cheapest and easiest would be coolant sensor . Lets us know how you make out on it Bryan

Check the TBI unit for loosness, take off the air filter and try to twist the TBI by hand. They loosen up and the gasket fails so the computer sees a lean condition and sends more fuel. 30min fix.

If you can look at the numbers with a scan tool, you can see what the 'puter thinks the coolant temperature is, to see if it is reasonable.
If way out of whack, suspect the coolant temp sensor, associated wiring, or a bad ground connection.

I can't recall if they were using a "charge air temperature sensor" or "intake temperature sensor" by 1994. If you have access to a scan tool, look for those numbers too, and, if used, see if they are reasonable for the ambient temperature the vehicle is operating in.
