Good Morning Everybody, Does anyone use any home remedies for kidney stones? I had them blasted last year and go in again tomorrow and will probably need a second treatment this go round. Doctor says they are not necassarily caused by diet like they used to think.. I figure there has to be some herbel home solution and someone on here would surely know. I did a search but they all seem to good to be true...Thanks in advance and have a safe happy holiday season...Jim

Jim,,,,, I've had 4 kidney stones so far..The last time I saw my urologist he confided in me to drink a glass of orange juice every morning and drink lots of water during the day..I stopped using the well water at work..The last 3 times I changed the whole house filter there , there must have been 3 to 4 ounces of sand in the canister..I bought a filter/conditioner for work..Knock on wood , I haven't had any stones since the last go-around..About 2 years now..My last stone got caught in my ureter and Doc had to go up through " Old Slick " and fetch it out..That first "leak" after the procedure was a killer....

If you think they are painfull in your kidneys , wait til one gets lodged in the line out of your bladder. (urethera maybe?) You may as well put a clothspin on the end of peter. You will back up and the pain will be so bad you WILL vomit and you will NOT be able to sit still let alone lay down. You will beg for the morphine,I don't care if you are a Green Beret, you will beg!!

Dehydration has been said by many Drs on those call in shows to be the prime cause of kidney stone formation. My wife's cousin grows cranberries. She says cranberry juice is the answer. A recent study revealed that orange juice was just as effective as lemonaide but I didn't save the article. It was in the news within the last month. Paul Harvey recommends CITRICAL. Good....DAY!

Three treatments. in reply to JiminIA, 11-26-2006 07:18:54
Jim:
One problem in searching for remedies is that kstones have different "chemical causes" if I may mis-speak in that fashion. The most common stone is calcium based. For those, lemonade is the most efficient remedy; second is cranberry juice. Higher concentration is proportionally more efficient. The human body is incredibly complex and the effects of simple dietary alterations are difficult to trace. Still, the juices seem to be best preventive remedy. Morphine drip, best treatment.
After lots of reading--I get four kstones per annum, like clock-work--it occured to me to take much more calcium, rather than avoid it, to counter calcium formation. Odd, but it completely worked. (Or at least I tell myself.) It could have been the purchase of a Super M. Indeed, you'd better go get one. Either way, mine have stopped for a year. (Shouldn't have said that.)

Mono.

P.S. Have you ever had any other pain as remotely intense as a kstone? I've literally thought--but only thought--to crawl around looking for my 12 gauge and just solve the problem immediately.

Maybe I should not have sold my SM, I still have a Super H and an M will that work!! Mine are one of the two types of calcium based types, that is interesting that you increased your calcium. This past summer I doubled up on my cranberry pills and within days I passed several large stones so I thought I was pretty well cleaned out up until this past week. I can put things off for a long time and stick it out and be stubborn, wife says I have a high pain tolerance compared to most of her patients... but man kidney stones..NO WAY....thought I was just week thinkin about crawling to get the 12 ga..no way to get comfortable at alll...Thanks, Jim

Jim:
Are you suggesting you do not run to the E.R. when you get a stone? Amazing. Doesn't the pain last for an hour? Close to that? Obviously, the duration of passing varies, but still.... You must have been a marine. I did have friend one time board a plane to Japan, in S.Fran., just as the the stone started kickin' him. "The pain is morally purgative; kathartic. It's good to suffer." Maybe, but I'd rather get hit by a train. Lots of respectable people been hit by trains.

It uasually last about an hour or less, Tue I spent almost al day in bed or with my head in the toilet. But I knew if I went to the ER they would admit me and keep until Mon when the blaster machine would be there. The last 3-4 days I have been ok for the most part with help of percoset and ibuprofin....Stubborn as a mule..must be the yankee blood in me...Jim

Take it for what its worth but last year on a radio show they were talking about this subject and one caller said he had been in for a few stone treatments and he heard that a beer in the morning and one at night would prevent stones, he has been doing this and no longer got stones, like I said it was a caller on a radio show but thats what he said. Also red wine, orange juice were also said to help prevent stones during the call ins. Beer, its not just for breakfast anymore.

that any home remedy works is there ? but the fact remains that humans survived without medical care till about 200 years ago so there's your proof that some things just work .

Hmmm, I see your point doctors are not God. I also believe that people need to eat right, not smoke and exercise frequently to help prevent many ailments.

I've had them three times and the doctors all say "If your a stone maker, your a stone maker" And diet has nothing to do with it !!! Another thing, they run on my side of the family,my kids get them as I do, wife's side doesn't get them,,,Go figure.
