Right here at app:4:25 central time in west TN there has been over 125 shots by a high powered rifle in sequence and still counting. It is opening day of deer season here and there lots of hunters around here. What would make someone do this?Meanness or madness at hunters in general.Ought to see my road right now traffic wise, looks like I40 heading towards the shots.Just thought I would share this,I think I have a crazy neighbor or one pi$$ed off one.Still shooting at 4:55c/t.Has anyone seen this kind of behavior???Thanks

I live in the mountains. The other night I heard a heavy machine gun crank off what must have been over a thousand rounds a ridge or two over. Of course it been reported that there are some strange folks back in these hills.

Well, yea, I"ve seen that kind of behaviour. Right behind me a jerk of a cop on opening day after not getting anything at sunrise commenced to shooting hundreds of rounds of ammo all over the farm while walking around. Pretty well ruined hunting for everyone in the region for a while.

Of course, since he was a cop neither the police nor DNR would respond.

I believe what you said is what happened here.I have never heard so many shots over there at one time and I have been living here almost all my 40 years.Thought it to be ironic it happened on opening day of deer season. There is a guy over that direction that puts up nasty no hunting signs and had been known to pull a gun on someone. He doesen't hunt and owns some of the best hunting land around and lots of it,maybe it was him protesting???

Got a neighbor whose family likes to do target practice. A nice August Sunday afternoon, if one sits outside to enjoy the weather, one might count 500 rounds. Either they pack their own or they spend a fortune on it. Well, they can afford it, either way.

Only 500 rounds ???? that would not make a good day of shooting . whe i was still farmen this one farm it had a valley next to the creek and at the far end over a 1000 yards on down stream it ended into a spoil bank from and old strip mine , this was our shooten range and on a sunday afternooon we would go thru between my two brothers and one of my friends anywhere between 1500 to 4000 rounds some small some not so small and the big stuff . There where a couple sundays that a friend of my one brother brough all of his tripoid mounted stuff down . Now Maw Duce got some of the locals all wound up and they called the sherrif in turn sent two units down to see what was going on the look on there faces when they pulled in with six heavley armed guys standen around loading mag's and 5 tripoid mounted setting on big tarps so we could collect the brass it was a Kodac moment .

Sounds like someone got a new toy and was playing with it. An AK, SKS,Mini-14 or Ar-15 or something. with some of your neighbors it might have been anything. Did the sheriff happen out that way?

I know it has sounded like a young war out here a few times when some of my friends came out and shot some. Hehe just remember, I got your back ! :)

three shot running deer in reply to Nebraska Cowman, 11-18-2006 15:10:17
I agree, 1 shot dead deer, 2 shots maybe dead deer, 3 shots - deer is running away. At least that is what I think happens around here.

Fool to the West of me this morning shot six in a row. This is shotgun only so I know he was shooting at running deer. He wasn't picking off the group of five does I see all the time.
Someone East of me had a good day. Heard one shot in the morning and one in the evening.

I took no shots today. Saw one running deer just South of my fenceline early this morning. Saw 12 wild turkeys walk past my parked truck inthe valley field. Fly over the 35" electric netting fence I have around my flock of sheep. Get stuck in with the sheep for awhile not figuring out they have got to fly one more time to get out of the paddock...

Just before dark saw doe and buck in the woods, about 30 yards East of my fenceline. Did not shoot, don't have permission to hunt that land.

Might go out again Sunday evening. Deer tore down the electric netting on Thursday evening, letting the sheep escape.
