I brought home my first tractor last night! Big deal some may say, but can you close your eyes and remember the feeling you had when you first got the engine to light off on your very own first tractor. It took me 45 years to finally find out what it feels like, and I can honestly say the last time I felt so much pride and joy was when my children were born.

Even better is how this tractor came to me, and why I feel so honored and excited to have it! I'm a city kid, but I married a small town girl from a family of 12. Her Dad worked full time for 34 years in a boat factory and also raised crops, milk cows, and hogs. Shortly before he retired, and after he sold (gave away) the farm to one of his Son's, he bought the Farmall Super-M to push snow and work the dirt on a small patch of land he kept next to the old farm. Twenty years later (now) he is in the late stages of Alzheimers and has been placed in a nursing home. His wife could not bear to be home alone without the man she's spent 65 years with, so she put their place up for sale and is moving into an apartment at the nursing home. She has been giving almost everything away to their children and grandkids. It turns out none of the boy's wanted or had room for his tractor so she asked me if I would take it! I ALWAYS WANTED A TRACTOR but for whatever reasons couldn't justify buying one. I will end up paying a fair price to them for this machine, but for now it's mine! I helped hauled the tractor home for my Father-In-Law when he bought it and remember the look in his eye's when he "fired it up" and drove it on the trailer. That had to be how I looked last night! My blood is red and so is my tractor... YeeHaw!

That is just way too cool feller. And ain't nobody on here wouldn't give their right knut to go back to their first tractor and remember that feeling all over again. I would venture to guess we all remember our first one. Tractor that is. Good luck and you couldn't have gotten a better starter tractor than a Super M. I'm really happy for ya, Harley

Some may say, "Big Deal", but not me! Your family story hits home with a lot of folks who have family tractors, but, again, not me. I can, however, relate to the feeling and the expression (probably amazement) on my face the first time that "B East" fired up. I don't have a family tractor, but I bought one "just like Dad's first tractor" and restored it some 12 to 13 years ago. I call it the "B East" (could be pronounced "Beast") because I live on the east coast of Florida.

It is a 1941 John Deere B, and I had to have it because it was like the one I grew up on. I found out, about three years ago, that Dad's tractor was a 1943 model. Heck, how could I remember all those details that the collectors and "correct police" are so nit-picky on? It's mine, and it takes me back to the "good old days" when I was a kid.

Come to think of it, those "good old days" are a lot more fun now than they were then, aren't they?

Enjoy that Super M...I drove one once, for maybe a day, and it beat the heck out of our '49 John Deere 'A'.

Good luck,

Stan

Oh yeah, I remember my first tractor. A 1965 Allis Chalmers D15 that Dad bought new when I was 11 years old. I would give a lot to have it back.

How cool is that, that you get a family heirloom.Take pictures and write down your memories.I lost my father-in-law around2 years ago,(to alszhiemers also)one of the greatest men I have ever known. One of the things my 15 year olds like to do is read about my early memories of grand-pa.They have read it LOTS of times and every time they are spell bound.Steve

Great story. It`s nice to hear when families can work together when faced with a situation like this. That makes it even more special than if you`d have had to fight with other siblings for it. Congrats, a super M is a great machine. Brokenwrench
