Going to the fair grounds to do vol. work. Our clubs show chairman will meet with myself and the fair manager to discus next yr's show.
Then off to Olympia with the boss to see my lung Doctor at 4:15, I havent been able to sleep w/o getting up after a few hours and using a nebuliser. If it aint the shoulders its the lungs.
48* here this morning. Weatherman predicted high winds overnite. Didn't get them so they must have meant high altitude.

36 at 10:30 am looks like sun might make it out . neighbor and hired man went by about 9 with 2 combines he farms quite a bit and does some custom work too . still a fair amount of corn in feilds for this time of nov. wet oct put everyone behind . about this time of year most guys are getting tired of mud and ready for things to freeze .
then we get into different set of headaches .

Got out of Calculus at 9:30, now I am going to set up to install my rear seals prior to picking the boy up from preschool. Daughter is at storytime at the local library. Might change some oil today...

Here are the stinkers....

Another rainy windy day. Maybe if it doesnt rain the 30 mph gust will help it dry. I should be able to finish up repairs on the corn sheller today. Need to get the disk in the shop between showers and have a look at a hinge pin that has moved. Will run over and pick up a harrow spring for the chisel that should be in. After that it will be hard to say. Really need to tear into a leak in the powersteering on the 830 or pull the hydraulic pump out of the 4010. I've got to get to town and see my brother in law and get another machine shed ordered so I can get started building it sooner than later. bill

Iv'e got to change out a set of dual wheel tires on neighbors 8600. Hope I don't pinch a tube and hope that the tires don't have any liquid ballast.

Re: WHAT will we do - a long read in reply to No tools, 11-15-2006 03:51:47
It'll rain this evening here, too. So this morning I'll go down in the swamp to finish the little bit of road work I was on Monday when the hydraulic line sprung a leak. Which covers what I did yesterday. And Monday.
It's the second time I've replaced that hose, and the one next to it that goes to the other end of the same cylinder twice also. After I replaced the other the second time I admitted that I understood some things better than the designers and didn't put it back in the clamp. Engineers hate to see a hydraulic hose move along its length but sometimes that's better than having it crimp and twist where it's held tight.
If I had gone back and liberated this one at the same time I would have had to find something else to keep myself busy today.
It's a serious chore to replace one of these; this one required taking the seat off and taking loose six other hoses to get to the end up under the platform. All of them hard to reach. Put the wrench on, turn the tiniest fraction, take the wrench out, move around to the other side of the tractor, climb up and twist around to reach, insert the wrench though another hole, turn another tiny fraction, climb back down, go back to the first hole and insert a different wrench, another miniscule movement.... The only thing that kept me going was knowing I had done it before so it had to be possible. I was younger then, though.
It took eight hours actual work time and two trips to town. The bright spots: I replaced the ends on two of the really difficult hoses - they were male ends that required turning the whole hose to unscrew them. With to 90* turns in the hose that's a job for three hands.
Also, by chance I wore a t-shirt from the mill where I work to the hydraulic service place. Turns out the counter guy did a lot of business with the maintenence folks in my department, we knew a lot of the same people, when he wrote up my bill he gave me the same discount IP gets. Bill was half what I expected.
It's who you know.
Better day today and much needed rain tonight.
Wm

Well, supposed to start raining this evening here in central NC, guess after the day job I'm going to mess with putting new bucket cylinders on the loader tractor.

Feed the calves in the lot, then head out to check cows/waterers on winter pasture. After that the day is wide open. I have plenty to keep busy, just not sure what I want to do.

It is a little cool here but the wind has gone down. I'm going to move about 75 of the working girls into a field. That and monkey with my Ask Cowman wbb site. Guys are having trouble registering and I think it is mostly because they are used to having spaces in their user names. letters and numbers only, no punctuation or spaces. That's my day :)
