Somebody gave me a new Cat branded battery (4D sized) that had a dime sized hole on the top. I filled it with acid and patched the hole with plastic cut from a junk battery. I used an epoxy repair adhesive and applied it to the quarter sized patch and the adjacent areas around the hole. I cleaned and abraided both the case and the patch.
I noticed the other day that the repair was not successful. I need suggestions on how to make a permanent repair to this battery. Thanks

I bought a tractor which had been in a fire. It had a new battery but the top had melted with a couple leaking holes. I put some thick roofing tar on the battery top -needed to cover most of the top. The battery worked a couple more years.

Many of the new battery cases are polypropylene. Heat welding is the only way to repair broken polypropylene. I know of no adhesive that bonds to it.

Go to your auto glass shop, see if they have a partial tube of windshield urathane (stuff they use to install windshield). It adheres to anything and everything. Besure to wear gloves as if you get any on your hands, only way to get it off is to wear it.

Take a piece of plastic from an old battery a little bigger than the hole. Use a propane torch to warm up the plastic piece and then warm up the spot around the hole you want to repair. Then slap the two melted pieces together. This worked for me to fix a crack in the bottom of a battery. I just had to drain the acid out.

If you get a flame anywhere near a battery, make sure the battery has been well vented. An explosion can be the result if hydrogen gas is present.

I bought a reconditioned battery and it had a small crack by one of the posts. They took an electric soldering iron and melted it together. Maybe you could do this with your patch. Dave
