I was on Ebay yesterday looking for a kubota to beat on so my Farmalls can stay warm n dry this winter. there was a "03 Kubota with Loader and Backhoe, on a trailer, all for 2800 buy it now. Was also set up for "invited sellers only" Wrote the seller to get on his "supposed list" and was even told free shipping!!!! this person DID NOT WANT this combo picked up. Nor would he allow paypal. CAN WE SAY FRAUD ANYONE????? ? HOW THE HECK DO YOU SHIP A TRACTOR,LOADER, BACKHOE ON A TRAILER FOR FREE????After seeing this..... . i will no longer shop at ebay due to these type of concerns..... . don"t feel the need to open my wallet to crooked types. Is there a safe place to shop for a Kubota to beat on without getting ripped off?????

I found a few of those tractors on ebay for a deal that seemed too good to be true. I e-mailed the seller questions about a tractor and the buy it now price was not the final price. It was only a bid to be able to purchase the tractor for another amount. The price was basically a downpayment and you needed to pay him more in euro dollars to be sent to him. This he said is to avoid paying taxes in the US and to avoiod Ebay charges. I did not feel comfortable with this so I did not buy from him. I thought it still sounded shadey.

Well I guess it matters if your looking for big stuff or small stuff. Big stuff scams but not really little stuff.
For instance, I sell on eBay 100% truthful, 100% positive feedback. Just sold a ladder rack for a truck for $152.50 to a person in NJ, around 15 minutes away.
I do agree that ALOT of people try to scam on eBay though.

Yes, I have got burned on Ebay. I have also made some major purchases on Ebay that came out just fine, including my 2001 2500 Chevy pickup and my replacement mail route car which is a 95 Toyota Corolla wagon. The one it replaced developed an electrical problem at 473k miles. Just be sure to check any vehicle purchases thru Carfax, as should be done even if buying locally. Also, second chance offers, you will likely get scammed big time. I have had several second chance even when the seller says they don't do second chanches. I have learned, if the item doesn't show up in just a few days, don't let the seller string you along until too late for Square Trade or Paypal to help. It is worth the few cents extra for trackable, insured shipping. I bought a printer that arrived with glass broken, but since insured got the majority of my money back. For some reason UPS won't refund their shipping charge. Just my 2 cents worth.

The other day I was on an auction and all of a sudden it became where the other bidders were listed as bidder 1 bidder 2 etc. Then the auction cancelled all bids at the end and started over.I am sick of ebay and am going to only go to swap meets from now on.I heard craigs list is better but never tried it.

I am SHOCKED; SHOCKED; that there seems to be fraud on E-bay.
Seriously, these guys that want you to contact them directly (and for some listings, you try to click on 'ask the seller' and your e-mail program opens); are mostly from Eastern Europe, and will try to get you to wire money via Western Union.
RUN AWAY! Don't even try to contact them, because if you give them your e-mail addy, they will try to 'bust' your password, then list more scams using your account.

There's lots of good people on ebay, i'm one of them i'm proud to say - over 6 years, 1300+ buys & sales, and 1 bad fb when I was new - I bought from someone in the U.K., he couldn't email me & I couldn't email him. I've sold everything from moose antlers to jackhammers - I just bought 2 brand new tail lites & brackets for my Ford for 13.00 - Grote lights & Ford brackets - Not Cho En Lai brand - How can you beat that? I'm no gambler though, there's no way I could buy a car, tractor, etc. without seeing it unless I knew the seller - Plenty of scammers out there, I get their crap emails all the time, but there's lots of honest people too.

Surely you didn't think for even a second that it was any kind of a legitimate deal. So let's say you are walking down the street and there is some visually impaired person selling pencils. But you see his eyes wandering right or left when a good looking chick walks by. So the guy is trying to scam you right? So do you quit walking down that street and get all upset at the pencil manufacturer or something? Probably not. You'd just ignore it like the eBay situation. But, if you want, don't use eBay, it certainly is your choice but surely you don't blame them do you? What a guy asks for something is none of their business nor do they even care.

Try your local Kubota dealer. Prolly still get ripped off if you are not careful, though.

Sounds like something wasn`t right there, but to avoid Ebay because you saw one questionable deal, is like not shopping at HyVee because one clerk didn`t know where the creamed corn was. Then again, whatever makes you happy. Just one less bidder that I might come up against.

There are many great sellers on eBay. Porter8N comes to mind. I did have one incident. The guy told me that he had not shipped cause his father had died. Three weeks later I got my wheels. Turned out his father really had died. I thought I was getting thrown a line. So far nearly 100 transactions (buying and selling) and no problems. Aaron

The price should have told you it was a scam, people wanting something for nothing are easy marks for these guys.

I spend a lot of time on eBay buying and selling mostly buying and never got ripped off and I will continue to shop on eBay!!! If I think of something that pops into my head that I would like to have I right it down and check it out on eBay when I have the time. When I see something for sale that I like in the news paper or from a friend I go to eBay for a appraisal. If I want to sell something I go to eBay for a appraisal. Sometimes I will not buy from somebody on eBay because of the negative feed backs they have. If a seller has a feed back of lets say 564 with 4 negative feed back I will still buy from the seller because there is still going to be some idiot out there that you can not please. kinda like when your driving a herd of 100 head of cattle or 4 cows you are going to have at least one bad cow that is going to give you trouble. If the seller is selling one particular item that I'm interested in I go to the feed back and contact a buyer who has bought the same thing and ask them about the product if it was good or not. it's amazing what you can learn from eBay. If you need something, it's on eBay. the list goes on and on. so don't be afraid of buying something on eBay, check the feed back, contact the seller and previous buyers and trust your instinct and enjoy shopping on eBay!!! In most cases the give away, besides the price, is they tell you to contact them direct. They give you an email address and tell you not to use the "contact the seller" as it don't work for some reason, or that it goes to there trash file. Always contact ebay on these adds. What was the item number?

Most of the time these are cut and paste jobs. They just use somebody elses ebay sale page and cut and paste into it. You'll see they want you to contact them before the sale and give you an email address. If you contact the seller through (ebay's contact seller link) you'll see they take them down real fast.

I've bought tractors, books, parts and equipment off ebay with only 1 potentially bad experience which turned out OK.
With high $$$ items I always ask for a phone # call and talk to the seller and tell them I'll have a mechanic or myself come check it out.If a seller is 'screwy' or doesn't want the item looked at I don't bid.

When you asked to be put on the "approved bidders list", did you have to give your ebay password?

That's how that whole deal often works... a way to trick you out of your account information, so they can get access to an account with GOOD feedback to run their scams from.

The MAY be a legitimate reason for a seller to have an "approved bidders list", but I don't know what it is.

As soon as you see an auction like that, the alarm bells ought to go off... DING DING DING DING DING DING DING!!!!

Be safe, and back away QUICKLY!

Alot of those crooks are getting smarter by using more realistic prices. There are so many Kubota scams on ebay they even have it listed on the left hand side on a main page or something.

Me too F-Dean. Gonna embarrass Howard here, but he sent MORE than I bought from him. He sure is a special guy. Now your face is red ain't it Howard. Ebay can't possibly screen all the items that are put on their site, but if you will notice that Kubota and a John Deere with the same capabilities are on the scam alert on the left side of the page in their tractor sites, and the ads usually only last 1 day and ebay deletes them. We all gotta look out for ourselves sometimes. If it quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck, well you get my drift. Glad you didn't fall for it is all. Harley
