As of late, I'm finding it more and more difficult to even function without the help of you guys.

So, be it known to all, that if any of ya are thinkin' 'bout leaving this site, we're gonna have a small war on our hands. I just ain't puttin' up with any of that nonsense. :>)

Found an old discared 6" extension in my tool box; been laying in there for some 25 years. Not good fer nothing 'cause the little retaining ball popped out. Took 'er to the grinder and dressed it down to the 5/16ths size needed fer the plug.

Couldn't budge it with my ratchet tho, but a 3 foot piece of pipe made 'er give milk.

Thanks All, Now, where was I at this time yesterday morning? Back to it..... ....

Allan

You're right, Allan, it becomes kind of fun to figure out how to fabricate tools for "one-off" jobs- I've got end wrenches with interesting little notches in them (to clear obstructions enough to make some headway), one of the Missus's kitchen knives bent at a 90 degree angle to loosen stuck clutches through the starter hole, etc. I'm always happy to get yet another cheap tool set, which becomes cannon fodder for the next specialty tools. You may all want to commit to memory the fact that the rear axle key from a Minneapolis Moline 4 Star Super is exactly the right size to remove the transmission oil filler plug on an IH 504 Utility.

Pawn shops are a good place to get tools to make them specal tools, or replace tools that have been made special. I wonder what the life span of that hose will be in that warm location.

Why Allan what makes you think any of us would leave. Following your adventures is better than any TV reality show. Besides yours usually has a happy ending. LOL

Yes Sir,

I tried that after I found out that my ring compressor wrench was only 1/4" after all.

Rummaged around and like you, spotted those taps. Darned thing would fit the plug okay, but I couldn't get enough "hold" on it with any of my vice-grips, pipe wrenches or Cresent wrenches. Awful tight space up under that hood.

On a bright note tho, I "re-found" a set of tools that some woman had given me years and years ago. Probably a Christmas present 'er some silly thing. Never did open the thing up as I just thought it was one of those "cheapie" tool sets that ya get in K-Mart and it's been under my bench since forever.

Anyway, in despiration, I opened the tool kit and it turns out to be one heck of a nice set of roadside tools. Oughta call her and say thanks, but I'm married now, so guess I'd better let sleeping dogs lie. :>)

You ain't just a kiddin'! That's why I hang out here!

I have a real bad habit of wearing blinders and utilize tunnel vision all the time. My way 'er the highway. 'Tis a bad, bad way to think.

All I gotta do is come on here, type a few words and these guys turn the lights on for me. They are continually saving me from myself.

If I had any medals I'd sure be fer sending them out. :>)

I'm glad you didn't let that lil' pup of a plug spoil your day.

It always rewarding when you can work with what you have at hand, rather than having to make a trip to town.

Yeppers, build the specialty tools you need, or do without.
