How do I wire two 12 volt batteries together to produce 24 volts? I have an old airforce surplus gas powered air compressor that is 24volt. I can start it on a 12 volter if the compressor isn"t belted up, I just need the right number of amps with the compressor belted on.

THANKS!!!
Bill

Each battery has a pos. and neg. post. Just join
the pos. from the 1st battery to the neg. of the
second battery. That will leave you with a free
neg. post on the 1st battery and a free pos. on
the second battery and these are hooked up in the
standard way as a single battery.

In what is called series in reply to Wild Bill, 11-11-2006 12:03:04
Hook the positive of one battery to the starter, then hook the negative of that battery to the positive of the second battery. Then hook the negative of the second battery to the ground. "series" =24 volts.

Or you could use 4 six volt batteries to do the same.
