I was not trying to be a wise acre, is their something special about the lining or perhaps the size that makes them expensive? I do not need to be reminded how old these tractors are, after mowing hay 10 hrs. in a pan seat I know how old me and those tractors are!

I am coming in late to this conversation so I don't exactly know if you already have bought shoes or not and what they are for but on my second tractor I learned a leason. I take my old shoes and drums to a local clutch and brake shop (South Bend clutch by me) and they make shoes to fit my drums. Which are a lot thicker then stock and in the long run cheaper. It's been a while since I have done one but the last I did was an -A- and I believe it was in the neighborhood of $60 out the door for 4 shoes and they cleaned up my drums just to make them look nice and get rid of the oil in them.

Don't get me wrong as I hate these high prices for everything especially given my low wages.

But those old tractors don't usually need the brakes replace very often , maybe ? once or twice in a lifetime ? so low volume of sales may have alot to do with it. There are some aftermarket suppliers of these now and perhaps they would of had a cheaper price ?
