If you also know what an M-400-450-560 Farmall will do, add 50% to that, and you'll be about right.

Try to get one that's diesel, has a wfe and has the 3ph and live pto if you can.

an oliver 88 will pull a 5x16 bottom plow and a 21ft disk will also drag any 1086 backwards and has been known to pull in the unlmtd power class

steakeggs;

I would go with the 21 ft.disk if it is single gang. Take 2 bottoms off a 5 bottom plow you might be all right. Or just dont put the 5 bottoms in the ground. But never drove a Oliver so really dont know what they will do. Pulled a 21 ft. single disk with a U Minnie. I thik they might be comparable tractors. Enuf.

I think the 88 steakeggs is talkink about was beefed up a lot.....
Back in the late 50s my uncle had a new 88 that couldent stay up with my FARMALL M with a IH power pack, both pulling 3 ;14s; 8" deep in river bottom ground ..... ..My M was in 3rd gear the 88 had to down shift to a lower gear that could not quite keep up.....

Your question is to broad you need to ask more. An oliver 88 is a power house of a tractor and even rated at around 43HP will pull more like a 50-60 HP tractor due to the high torque of the 6 cylinder engine.

Sit on a fence row and rust while it watches the Case 400 do all the work...

Sorry... Couldn't resist... :)

we ground feed, hauled silage, hauled gravity wagons, planted, drilled, raked, baled, ran elevators and augers, chopped corn stalks, spread manure and fertilizer, pulled a disk and a 6 section drag a little with ours -

it actually came with our mounted oliver corn picker - so that is what we did with it for the several years before we quit picking corn....

What are you asking here? Gas or diesel Fleetline (straigh 88 ) or a Super 88? (99% of all straight 88 tractors have Super sleeves and pistons in them by now and they run in the mid 50's for PTO horsepower. More questions?

Make you wonder why and how Deere sold putt putts until the late fifties.

Put-puts outsold Olivers and many others because they cost a lot less,lasted a lot longer,did a lot more work,required a lot less maintenance,were a lot better ballanced and required fewer gears in trans. because of w i d e r torque and power band. And they were prettier! Need any more reasons??

Well, I grew up on the putts and have put thousand of hours of seat time on them through the years, but when it comes to messing around with yard work, the 88 is the tractor I go to every time. It's manual steering does not require a lot of effort, it has a real handy live PTO, sounds and runs real smooth and comes to life real quick when the throttle is goosed.I should add that it does have the super pistons & sleeves. I,ve only had it in the field once and that was when I pulled a 14 foot disk for about a half hour and it was a blast! The 630 JD I grew up on could never even dream of pulling that same disk that fast. Jim

Two cylinders until late 1963 in America and until 1970 in Argentina. A simple rugged fuel efficient design, that's why.
