Is there anything I can put in my 4440 to stop or reduce the blow by? Engine performs fine , just has alot of smoke coming out of the breather pipe. How about different oil?

Standing by the tube when idling can you hear sort of a woop woop noise if so the rings are shot that is compression leaking by . I saw that a number of times working in a shop years ago

Rule:

If an engine has a breather pipe, it is supposed to have blowby. It is normal operation and it is how the engine breaths.

I would be more concerned if it didn't.

I agree with buickanddeere. Is it using a lot of oil? or just has smoke from the breather? I've seen perfectly good engines have smoke from the breather. I had the engine in my cat rebuilt and the rings didn't seat. After they fixed it, I asked about doing a blow by test. They said it was pointless because there is nothing to compare it too. The original cat two ring pistons [I have 3 ring] used in 3204 and 3208's had so much blow by that testing wasn't an accurate way to tell the condition of the engine. Could it have a choked breather pipe? I think it might be good to do a little more diagnostics and try to figure out if something else is causing it. Hope this Helps. Dave

About all you can do to slow it down is use a thicker oil but that will only slow it down for a while. In the long run you will need to rebuild the engine to fix it. If your useing a 30W oil or a muti weight oil going to a 40W or 50W will slow it down but in the long run you might get a year or 2 more out of it but in the true real end you will have to open it up and fix it

If there is something that will work I haven't found it yet. I have tried a lot of different combos on our allis combine that is using oil and nothing has worked. Lucas Oil Additive increased the oil pressure but did nothing for the smoke or oil usage. It always becomes painfully obvious the only thing that fixes it is new pistons and rings. Nothing in this business is ever easy or cheap unfortunately.

Blowby is a product of scuffing and scoring wear on the walls. Anything will be a stop gap measure at best, it wont stop the problem, only mask the symptoms while the damage increases. When it gets too bad that means going in, and the price only increases with time.

That's awfully sketchy info. We need to know everything. Difficult enough to diagnosis when we are not looking at the tractor. You could T the blowby into the air intake after the filter/before the turbo if you are real careful. If the pressure doesn't go too negative inside the crankcase.

Try Rotella T 15w40 made by Shell
I have seen it work on Highway trucks
with blowby and consumption. Good luck
