Do water glass products like K&W block seal and Bars head gasket repair work with diesels? Have a perkins 3 cylinder diesel that blow though the radiator.

Dad and Grand-Dad ran a garage for over 50 years, and they were filled with disdain for most "mechanic-in-a-can" products, as Grand-Dad called 'em. They used the original "pelletized" Bar's Leaks product in cooling systems on engine overhauls, much like the OEM manufacturers {GM, Ford, etc.] used the large cooling-system "tablets" in theirs...but other than the occasional use of Hastings' "Casite" to free up sticking valves, they stayed away from what they called "snake-oil" additives.

But then, Grand-Dad was a welder, and knew what was required to properly fix a cracked block or head, if it was repairable. If you've got a leaking head gasket, you'll be better off in the long run to fix it once, and fix it right.

Just my opinion...your mileage may vary, objects in mirror may be closer than they appear, void where prohibited, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.

When I have seen such stuff used, the person finally had to do the repair correctly anyway, and usually at far greater cost from all the problems the additive caused. The only thing in your tractor radiator should be 50% water, 50% antifreeze, and anti-cavitation additive.
Pull the head and find out what is wrong. Cheaper in the long run. Tom

I never never like repairing something with a patch. Hoever my boss is totally opposite and will buy "overhauls in a bottle" and stop leak etc. Stop leak IN MY EXPERIENCE has a tendancy of making thermostats stick. I have seen excellent results with iron tite. That is the only product i have found that actuall works and would use in a pinch.

I had a Hudson Hornet 308 cu. in engine with a long crack down the side of one cyl. The crack would open up when under load when passing or going up a hill. The way to use KW is to disregard the instructions ,Put it in and never take it out.But never expose it to air longer then it takes to top off the coolant. If you have to open the cooling system drain & flush with water now not later. I drove that Hornet 98k when the crank broke.I & a fellow mechanic put water glass in a 49 ford which had a severe internal leak which we used for transportion to work.

Time for a head gasket. Parts are cheap for the Perkins.

I'm sure the K&W product is LABELED for diesel use.

As to whether it will make a LASTING repair in your engine, you won't know until you try it, and see what happens.
