My dad has a 806D with the D361. The engine was overhauled about 50hrs ago. It was never worked hard or broke in correctly. It was used for light duty loader work and then driven 65 miles at a wide open throttle. The problem is that I believe that the rings never seated. The pan gets really full of deisel and it does not run correctly. It misses and blows alot of fluid out of the exhaust. Can we remove the pistons and install new rings and hone the cylinder or should we do another complete on it. We don't have very much money and my dad was going to do a compression test on it when he got to his brothers house to get the tester. Any suggestions are welcomed

Well , the D361 is not and engine for the novice to rebuild as it has a BUNCH of quarks that will give ya fits and i have seen one guy that just knew he could do the rebuild blow up 4 engines and distroy 4 blocks in less then 6 weeks. . As for the fuel in the pan more then likely you have a Rossa Master pump on it and the one seal that seal diesel fuel from the pan is leaking and to fix will requier pulling the pump and replaceing the TWO seal on the pump drive shaft . As for the low power here it could be a matter of incorret pump timming or incorret pump settings or incorret valve set . As for pulling the engine back down and RERING it that is your call but first i would put her to work and see if they will set in and this should happen in less then 50 hours . Since i can not look this tractor over for myself it is realy hard to give ya a good answer.

It does have the RoosaMaster pump off of a DT407 on it. I can tell him to replace the seals on the pump and see what that does. It has tons of power but just smokes alot upon start up. AFter you work it for a bit it cleans up and runs great. We adjusted the timing and it starts in 30 deg. weather after two turns of the motor and without ether.

Well when a D361 is done wright and everything is as it should be then they will start down below 0 with out either and if y never give her a sniff then it will always start . Now if ya have a pump off a 407 then this may be the cause of the wet stacking and also the excess of fuel . Now since i did not see this pump on the test stand and check for myself on the fuel delivery of this pump here again i can not give a good answer . You have to forgive me as i have seen some good pump work and lots of BAD work . One time i had to take a pump to a place that i had never used before and got a call from them telling me that the head was junk , HUMMMmmmmm lets see here tractor started just fine on cold days and ran well just leaked fuel ran up on RPM's just fine but was starting to get COFFEE grounds in the winder well the job was only SUPPOSE to cost 425 bucks now they want 1200 . I tell them that is this pump on the stand at this time he tells me yes and i tell him that I'll be up in just a bit so i run up to this place and tell him that i want to see what this pump is doing on the stand when he start to back pedal and does not want me to have a look well we get into a littel bit of a battel and i flat told him that he was going to show me what this pump was doing or we were going to have a HUGE PROBLEM and he would not like the end results well we go back into the pump room and he fire up the stand and tryes toFLIM FLAM me with running the stand BELOW the rated cranking RPM of the pump at engine cranking speed and this will give ya a low pressure reading and when i told him to turn the speed up to correct cranking speed that the starter turns the engine at start up OH LOW AND BEHOLD the pressure come up to 50 lbs over the low ratting well now that i caught him in a lie then he trys the well the high end is low well yea if ya run it a 1500 rpm less then the rated RPM of the engine so here we go again . I looked at him and said does the pump leak fuel _ no i fixed that but you , no is the govener fixed well yes i fixed that but you need a - No the pump is fine and i will pay ya what you told me it was going to cost and i am out of here with that pump . Before i sent anything out to people that i did not know i would always stamp a letter and a couple # on the pice just to make sure that i got back what i sent in and also put a match line to make sure that i did not get back a sherman and williams over haul. Well that was 10 years ago and that old junk pump is still on that 1950 OIL ALL OVER and i was on it for 5 days this fall packen silage and guess what it still runs just fine . So here i think that the 407 pump is set a bit to rich for a 361 and how it would act set back well i would have to see it on a stand .

It may be the lift pump diaphragm leaking.

It sounds more like an injector problem than a lack of compression. You probably have either a stuck injector or a bad tip

all new injectors as of this spring (motor rebuilt this past winter)and a new injection pump when the motor was redone. It had the same problem before the new injectors and that was we thought it was also. The problem did not change at all after the new injectors were installed.
