Have been reading the posts about fences being torn down. Several years ago I was responding to a flue fire at about 10:30 pm. Wet clay gravel road, raining and windshield fogging up. Ran up on a 90 degree curve in the road, made it thru the curve but took out 7 or 8 posts and good bit of the fence. I was in my pickup not a fire truck.

After hearing that the fire was out, I went to the house of the people that owned the fence. I had never met them before. The biggest and hairyest man I had ever seen came to the door. I explained what I had done and said I would fix the fence that night or in the morning if his cattle were not close by. He said no, WE would fix the fence after I had eaten breakfast with them. Goes on to say that I was the only one who had ever stopped in all the years he had owned the place, everyone else just kept going.

We became good friends. People just need to be honest but many times they wont be.

We live on a "Correction Corner" where the road "jogs" about 50 -60 feet. A year ago, or so, we were out one morning and found a car sitting in the ditch. It was pretty tore up, glass everywhere. I called the sheriff and they came out to have a look. By 9-10 am the car was gone and things were cleaned up. There used to be a big rock in the ditch on this same corner. I guess that it had been nailed a couple times before Dad decided to move it inside the fence. This corner can sneak up on ya if your not careful - there is a small "hump" in the road just before you get to the corner. I didn't lose any fence this time, but they got close.

We awoke one morning to find a 1963 Impala through a fence and front wheels in an irrigation ditch. Went to check it out and found tortillas and Coors cans all over the floor. Called the sherriff dept and had it towed. Never did find the owner.

A neighbor had the same thing happen one night. He saw headlights in a field and drove down to see who it was. Car full of drunks had taken out his fence and had front wheel in his concrete irrigation ditch. He asked if they wanted him to call a tow truck or else he could try to pull them out with his tractor. They of course wanted him to do it. Problem was that he "accidently" jerked too hard on the chain with his 4020 and tore the h... out of the car. Deputy and tow truck came. Never saw those guys or that car again.

This sort of thing happened almost every weekend in our area. Usually a car load of low riders out cruising the back roads, and almost always Coors involved.
