I wish I had a camera with me today... I saw a ford tractor on the side of the road that had a front end loader on it that I have never seen before. The tractor was red and gray and said selet o matic on the side. What caught my eye was the loader. It had a big lift arm on the left side of the tractor and no lift arm on the right side. I would think this would put a lot of strain on one side of the tractor. Did Ford make a lot of loader like this?? or is it a add on loader? Thanks Pete

I'll throw my pic in as well.

It's a 722 loader, though the controls have been relocated to the hyd top cover, and i am using tractor hyds instead of the front pump. etc.

Works fine for light to medium duty work, and is way better than a wheel barrow.

makes a great 'hanger' for things I need to paint..

The blue tractor with the red loader on it is my own. I took that photo just after I had finished installing the loader on it. I've since painted it blue.
Ford made two one armed loaders - same frame and brackets - one had the trip bucket, the other - like mine had the hydraulic dump.
They are light to medium duty rigs - 1000 lbs lift.
Their advantage is that you can put them on or off in about 10 minutes. Disadvantages are no down pressure, and you really need to ballast the right side.
I've used mine pretty hard for 3 years now and had no problems with it.

Yup - nifty things! A guy in a town about 30 miles from me has one. I noticed it one day when I was in town. If you post this on the "8N" board, Soundguy has one (and lots of photos). He'd be the one to talk to.

My neighbor (when I lived in Ohio) had one mounted on a 4000 Utility style tractor. It was/is a fine loader.
STORY TIME:

His son of 14 at the tme was roto tilling in road gear at about 15 mph. one end of the field was a little bit slippery. The front end would "push" a bit making the corners in that area. He never throttled back. on the last corner he made that day, he turned early to clear a bunch of bushes and old farmstead remains sticking out in the field. He did not make the turn. The loader clipped a concrete watering trough by about 10" (a glancing blow). The loader was absolutely unharmed. But it jerked a football sized chunk of the touque tube/transmission housing right out of the side of the Ford.

I spent the next weekend grinding and prepping the area to be welded. Ford wanted 3000 for a new housing, and 2800 for labor. I preheated with a rosebud ahead of the weld, Used Ni rod, and short strings of bead spike peening the devil out of it between beads while heating. The casting was from 5/8 to 1" thick where the break was located. The weld was good and we ground it down to contour it to the shape of the outside of the casting. It took about 15 rods. We painted it, and reinstalled the loader, all has been well with it for these many years. Fun stuff. JimN

JCB robot skid steers have a one sided boom and a door on the other side. Comes with a lifetime warrantee. A one sided boom on a tractor sounds pretty interesting. Dave

I saw some of those on the net recently. Seems like a good idea to me. I never did think too much of climbing through the bucket to get on board.

Looks like a JCB Si-draulic, they made them 1953 to 1956 but they never caught on in England as they were said to be unstable at full lift, but 2,000 were bult and sold by Hydro Fourche in France under a licence agreement.

Ford had the 711 and the 722

As far as i can tell, the 711 came mostly with the trip bucket, and single lift cyl. The 722 came mostly with a da dump cyl, and sa lift cyl, also had an oil resv in the frame, and used a front pump, and had the control spool mounted on the loader frame. It looks as though either the 711 or the 722 could have had the trip or the hyd bucket.. the the previous setup was probably the 'usual' setup.. I.E. 711 being economy.. and the 722 being the more utility unit.. etc..
