A FRIEND HAS A 40 AND THE LIFT WILL NOT STAY UP, WILL NOT RAISE BY THE TRACTORS HYDRULICS. WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

First thing to check is the hydraulic oil level.

If it's full, crack a pressure line fitting ansd see if it squirts.

If it does, you need the Service Manual for what comes next.

If it has dual controls, one thing to check. Under the left side of the seat is a lever that should be flipped forward. The lift arms should then be pinned together, and only use the outside lever. THe inside one should be left in the up position.
