Having seen this become popular in other parts of the country, we are tinkering with the idea of starting an annual plow day here in NE Kansas. Any ideas to help us make it enjoyable for everyone would be appreciated. thanks in advance for your input. Maurice

Talk to some local banks or other farm finance groups. Local dealers might be interested. They might be good for the food.

I'll take a stab at this one.

Things that come to mind.

Have a way to load and unload plows. Forklift works the best. Loader works also.

Refreshments are nice. I have seen all the way from Soda and coffee to a full meal.

Remember that these old plows didn't handle trash real well. If you can get a plot of ground that has had most of the crop material removed that would be best. ie the straw or corn stalks have been baled off. If bean stubble you should be OK.

If you are talking full size rigs not garden tractors you will probably need at least 60 acres.

Put the word out however works best in your area and have fun.

You may wnat to consider having 2 areas. One for the bigger tractors pulleing 3 or 4 plows, and another for the rigs that only pull one or 2 bottoms.

Try to keep it "for fun and learning" as apposed to " rules, judging and money". You will get more participants and they will still be happy when they leave and will come back year after year. The competitive ones will have their own little grudge matches but everyone will just have good ole nostalgic plowing fun. Good Luck.
